After looking around a little on this site and the Workhorse site, besides the gross weight ratings and the rear end axle ratio, OH and the price, are there any differences in the two chassis?
My question is out of curiosity as I see many mods on the suspension (track bars, steerdafe and so on) for the W22 but almost nothing on the W24.
Anyone care to inform the uninformed (ME)?
Thanks for any info you can shed.

All suspension modification's that fit the W20/W22 will fit the W24.Our front Trac Bar fits W16 all the way up to a W25.5

RV 4 2 : There are several differences other than those you already know about. The most significant ones are as follows:
W-24 has 30,000 GCVWR and therefore gets at MH2100 Allison tranny. Because this tranny does not contain a "park Pawl" that mechanically locks the gears, the W-24 comes with a J72 auto-apply parking brake, which ensures your coach will not roll away when you put it in "park" You can quickly tell if a coach you are looking at is on the W-24 by the presence of a yellow "button", which is actually a switch made to look like the air brake release on many DPs, on the dash.
The W-24 also comes with 4 pistons per caliper disc brakes, and I believe the rotors are larger too. WCC calls these improved brakes "Quadrahaulic"
The rear-end gear ratio is a little "taller" than the W 20/22, but the 6 speed tranny "should" eliminate any mpg penalty inheritant with the gear set needed to move the extra payload.
I've heard more than one WCC engineer claim "the W-24 is our finest chassis" BUT that was before they introduced the UFO. The new UFO is 26,000 GVWR and uses a new suspension to compliment the rear engine design. IF I was not waiting to find a UFO based floor plan my wife likes, we would be driving a W-24! I hope this info answers your question. ED

Ed, That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much. I forgot about the tranny but didn't know what the differences were besides my theory of more weight capability. It sounds like the brakes are a good addition although, I would expect better brakes for a jump in GCVWR. At least I can now understand the premium price asked for a W24. And also why I will most likely spring for that option when the DW and I decide to jump into a class A in the next year or two.

You are welcome. That is what we do here at iRV2,com-share info to help each other.
As you know the W series chassis are all front engine. With the recent introduction of the rear engine UFO, you can bet the coach builders will be offerring some really innovative floor plans on a very quiet chassis by the time you make that jump. Good luck with your shopping, your timing of the purchase will certainly work to your advantage as more choices will be available in the next few years. ED

Just a clarification on Edgrays specs.
The W-22 and the W-24 BOTH have the same rear end ratio of 5.86 (after 2005), so no differences there. Also after 2005 they both have 6-speed transmissions instead of 5-speeds.
My W-22 came with the optional 8,500 lb capacatity front axle, and the optional 15,000 lb rear axle (only 500 lbs less than the W-24), so I have a bit of room to play with.

Ed, the UFO would be a nice choice but with my luck the model we want will change over the model year after we purchase. The DW has found her floorplan and almost nothing will change her mind.
Then I think of the added cost. I have yet to see a comparison of two similar coaches with the chassis change and what the cost differential is.
At the Pomona RV show recently the W24 was a $9800+ option. I am betting the UFO would be more.

If you can make her happy and get it on a W-24, then please don't wait. I made THAT mistake when we didn't order my wife's floorplan in 06. The 07 came out without it, and I'm screwed. None to be found anywhere!! Now we wait to SEE if anybody will build anything SHE will have on the UFO- soooo, I might win in the end hehehe ED

Mike, Last year when I bought an 05 Pace Arrow, the W24 option was $4,900 and I got it for $3,820. I was once told to price options seperately and to try to work a 30 to 35% off on all options. I just can't see it being $9,800.

THUDMAN: The coach builders who are going to use the UFO under their 2008 floor plans will be making their announcements at the industry-only 44th Annual National RV Trade Show to be held in Louisville, KY November 28-30,2006. This is the BIG event at which the builders show off their new products to the dealers.
Until their customers make the announcements, Workhorse is remaining very quiet. Believe me, several of us have tried to pry out some advance info. with NO results.
