Wonít Start When Hot

I have a 2004 Holiday Rambler Vacationer 36DBD on a workhorse W22 chassis. The engine starts fine but when I use the motorhome and shut it off it wonít start again. It sounds like the battery is dead. I replaced the battery with an 800 CCA battery and it still does it. If I let the engine cool down it will start. This gets very frustrating when I have to stop for gas. Any ideas as to why this is happening? I have only has the RV for about 3 months. The previous owner said he never experienced the issue but it did sit for about a year before he sold it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I did check and the alternator is working properly.

Can you define/further describe won't-start symptoms? If the engine tries to crank but can't quite turn over, that is usually a weak start motor or solenoid suffering from heat soak (which is why it starts when cool)..

By not starting I mean that it may crank very slowly, click or not at all. Pretty much the same problem as if the battery was very low.

Sounds like a starter/solenoid issue.

Could get a starter like this one

or a change the solenoid

pull starter and have it tested.. as above great starter, but wrap it with heat blanket.. you got a bad starter.. any one you get.. make sure you get the blanket for it.. any big box store will be able to get you one you can afford.. but wrap it.. they are same starter for chevy truck of that yr.. try c2500 with that eng and it should cross over.. good luck and come back and let us know what you did.

I replaced the starter today. Unfortunately the original heat shied didn’t fit so I had to fab one and also put a heat shield blanket around it. It definitely spins faster and starts better. Hopefully this takes care of the hot starting issue. Thanks everyone for your input.
