No problem Don....

My measurement agree with you. Unless dnebout's rig is different we are looking at a stock exhaust system.

The more I look at your pics, the more I remember my cats being further back. They were no way near the steps like yours show. I want to say they're about 10' back from my downpipes. That would be about 3' longer than what you have, which is about what R Mechanic said they were extended. I'll check it all out and back to you with real world measurements.
Thanks for all the input!
Dave

I crawled under the MH with a tape measure this time. It's 55 inches from the exhaust manifold flange to the first connector and 40 inches from the connector to the beginning of the cat. So that's 95 inches.

I see that you have a W22. I have a W20. Do you think that would make a difference in pipe lenghth to the cat or do they add an extra lenghth of pipe at the other end after the muffler?

DAVE: I think you will find that the GVWR does not affect the length, however I believe the original WCC WHEELBASE length does, as the tailpipe "usually" exists the frame rails just forward of the rear tires. IF your Cats were moved back further from the engine, it most likely was done at Tiffin when they stretched your chassis. It is easier to add length to the cat's pipe section than to modify the muffler and tailpipe hangers which are aft of the cats.

Please let us know what you find.

Just one more reason to think long and hard about purchasing a motorhome that is stretched by the manufacturer. I knew there were more reasons than potential driveshaft vibration to pass on a new RV that was stretched from 208" to 220" by the manufacturer.

UPDATE: R Mechanic sent the RV to the muffler shop today. They were going to put the cats back in the stock location. When they cut the first cat out, there was nothing in it. No ceramic stuffing, nothing. I'll let you know what's in the other one, when they cut it out of the system.

Several years ago our MH wouldn't pass smog, same thing, one of the cat's had come apart and blew out the exhaust. Had a rebuilt unit put in for about $280, if I remember right

On the OBD2 rigs with an after-cat O2 sensor on each bank: Would the engine throw a code when the cat puked??

Eddie,
No codes thrown when our cat "puked".

Yes, if there is a post catalytic oxygen sensor its primary job is to monitor catalyst efficiency. When the cat becomes inoperative a diagnostic code will set (P0420 I think). I don't think our Workhorse rigs have post cat sensors, (I'm pretty sure mine doesn't) and I don't see any in the photos on the previous page.

Thanks for the replies..my P12 (is like a W20 rig) has the 4 Oxygen Sensors.
So, Jim, what you are saying is that with 4 O2 sensors it is like having a
"Smog Check Station" on board 100% of the time, right? And if a cat converter fails to a certain point, it sets a code and lights the SES lamp.
The 4 O2 sensor set-up seems to be an advanced technology, giving an Owner a heads-up prior to a State smog check.

I wonder why WCC chose not to include it??
