1994 Ford F53 Power Loss Issue

I have a 1994 Itasca Suncruiser with a Ford F53. I have had an ongoing struggle with the EGR. I finally have it fixed, so I don't have error codes. I replaced the EGR valve sensor with a Motorcraft part. However, I still have power loss issues after traveling up steep hills. When starting off, I can climb hills with full power. The engine downshifts, and I maintain decent speed. However, after an hour or so, climbing hills causes declining power loss. The engine downshifts, but I don't get enough power to get able 35 to 40, depending on the since of the mountain. If I turn off the engine, then turn it on again after a few seconds, the engine returns to full power. I don't get an error code. The check engine light doesn't come on. I am thinking the fuel/air mixture is wrong because of "something" with the EGR.

I have previously changed the EGR valve, MAP, EGR solenoid, fuel filter, fuel pump, spark plugs and harness, verified the distributor cap is good, verified the vacuum pressure is good after changing several old vacuum lines, changed the fuel pressure regulator, changed the air filter, checked the transmission fluid (filter and fluid have been changed on schedule), and used fuel injector cleaner several times. I tried blocking the EGR intake with a coin, but then I get an EGR no air flow error code, and the engine performs horribly after only 15 minutes.

I have encountered several threads online with these same issues, but I have yet to have find a resolution. Has anyone had any luck fixing this problem? Has anyone tried this EGR delete adapter? https://www.ebay.com/i/303118113583?...hoCe6UQAvD_BwE

Thanks!

On my 94 F53 I blocked off about 8 years ago and I have no codes and my power is OK but not great but it does not change.

What is that error code you are getting?
I do not think I have heard of a EGR no air flow code,
There is no sensor on the EGR tube so how would it know about air flow?

A lot of posters over on the Ford site have tried it but they say you will still get codes.
As long as the EGR is working with it blocked you do not need it.

All that it is, is just a plug and resisters.

I'm not sure how similar or different a 94 is from a 96 but here is my problem and solution.

A 1994 F53 does not have a catalytic converter.

Error 332 Code

When the tube is blocked, I get error 332, insufficient EGR flow detected. I assumed that meant exhaust flow through the EGR. If I just got the code, I'd be okay with it, but the engine also suffers from the power loss issue.

new EEC

I have considered replacing the EEC. Maybe that would do it. Hate the cost, but I also hate struggling over mountains!

The 332 code has nothing to do with EGR flow.
Also it has nothing to do with blocking the EGR tube.

There are two 332 codes. one is for KOEO self-test and the other is for CM codes.

I will guess you are getting the CM 332 and not the KOEO self-test code.

Continuous Memory DTC 332 indicates the EGR valve did not open with the engine stabilized and the EVR solenoid duty cycle present sometime during vehicle operation.

Possible causes:
-- Obstructed or cracked hose to EGR valve.
-- Icing.
-- Damaged EGR valve.
-- Damaged EVR solenoid harness.

I would confirm the fuel pressure before dropping the money on an ECC, but I did get a refurbed one from rock auto for $175ish.

subford,
with egr deleted and potential higher cylinder temps, did you change timing or fuel injection?

No I did not.
It did not seem to run any higher.

Error 332 Code

I only get the error code when blocking the tube, so maybe that is revealing another problem? I did a vacuum test on the line going to EGR and saw no pressure loss. I haven't replaced the harness, but the solenoid is new.

fuel pressure

I have verified fuel pressure at idle and with a load. It checked out.

I made a little error above as said there was a KOEO 332 error code but there is not one.
But still think you got the CM 332 self-test code as stated above.

The other 332 error code is the engine running 332 code (KOER).
Here it is:
DTC 332 in Key On Engine Running (KOER) indicates the EVP sensor input did not change after the EVR solenoid was instructed by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to open the EGR valve.

Possible causes:
-- Vacuum hose leaks.
-- Icing.
-- Obstructed vacuum hose.
-- Obstructed EVR solenoid filter.
-- Damaged EVR solenoid.
-- Damaged EVP sensor.
-- Damaged EGR valve.
