1996 F53 Coachmen Mirada

I have a 96 Coachman F53 Ford drivetrain, motor is a 46o transmission is an E40D, when I first start the coach up cold, the transmission takes approximately 30 to 60 seconds before it will shift into reverse or forward. Fluid is fine, and full, red color with no odor. After that initial delay it shifts fine the rest of the day, no slippage or any abnormalities at all. Every time that I restart it while it's warm, no hesitation at all, goes right into gear and shifts normal. Does anyone have any advice whatsoever on this please ? I sincerely thank you in advance and look forward to your reply !!!

I think the E4OD has a check valve to keep the fluid in it while the engine is not running.
It sounds like the check valve is bad and the fluid is draining back into the pan.
Then it takes a little while to fill in the Morning.

Subford,
I sincerely appreciate your replies, do you have any idea as to the exact location and exact name of this check valve, I would like to change it out rather than putting any risk on my transmission. I sincerely thank you in advance and look forward to your reply.

OK we are talking about the last information at the bottom of the page I posted above.
It is called "Converter Drain Back".

Here is the info on it:

It's also possible that someone has put the wrong filter in the transmission. It has the deep pan and needs the matching (4wd) filter to reach the fluid.

Has it always done this, or recently?
