Question 1999 F53 chassis

Any know the difference between the chassis of a 1999 f53 with a V10 and a 2000 f53 with a V10? I have looked for a Roadmaster Reflex for a 99 and cannot find one for that year. Also with the Safe T steering. Roadmaster does list one for a V8 in the 99 year. I didn't know Fleetwood put the V8 in the 99 model.
Thanks

If you have a 1999 Fleetwood with a Ford V8 then it is a 1997 F53 chassis. Don't be surprised, it is quite common for the chassis to be a year (or more) older than the coach year.

If it is a V10 then it is a 1999 F53 chassis. There were no official 1998 F53 chassis made, rather the V10 1999 chassis were introduced earlier than normal in 1998. This left the coach builders with a choice of leftover 1997 460 V8 chassis or the new V10 chassis.

Be aware of plug issues on the early V10. How many miles are we talking about? On our 99, it needed plugs at 65k... badly... You'll have to search about plug removal and associated issues. These are not trucks that you want to treat like casual V10s for removing and installing the plugs. It's got to be calculated and done carefully..

Thanks for the info. I do have the V10. What I am trying to find out is, Where can I get a Roadmaster Reflex steering or a Safe T steering for the 1999 year. I can find then for the 2000 year but not for the 99 year. So back to my Question. What is the difference between the 99 and the 2000 year with the V10? What change did ford make?

Have you call Roadmaster and asked them?
Roadmaster Inc. - Tow Bars, Braking Systems & RV Accessories
I found this at etrailer.com
http://www.etrailer.com/Anti-Sway-Ba...RBK4-RSSA.html
You may want to call them or Roadmaster to verify the P/N. They also show the bracket alone.

Thanks Chuck. I saw that on etrailer and it showed it would fit a 1999 with a V8 but not for a V10. After the 4th I will call Roadmaster and ask them. I would think that there isn't any different in the chassis. 99 was the first year for the V10 in a motor home. I can't find where ford put a V8 in 99.

The tie rod on mine is 1 1/2 inch diameter and I was told it was 1 5/8 inch on the 2000 model. This is really no big deal. I can always make the bracket. Just looking for the easy way out. LOL

I put a Safe-T-Plus on my 1999 and I got the brackets from them for $40. Safe-T-Plus shows a bracket for 1999 with V8/V10 F-53K2 with 1 1/2" tie rod and F-53K2.5 for 2000 with 1 5/8" Tie Rod.

The last F53 with V8 was the 1997. There was no official 98 chassis. The 99 chassis and later only have the V10. Any listings for a 99 with the V8 are incorrect

We had a 1999 Dutch Star. Since it had the V-10 and not the V-8 and since they didn't have a a 1998 chassis one has to assume that the 1999 coaches had a 1999 chassis. I know that does not happen today. Our 2014 coach has a 2013 chassis.

Not knowing at the time that there could be (but they didn't make one) a 1998 chassis under our 1999 MH I ordered a Steer-Safe for a 1999 and it fit just fine. I would suspect that you could do the same. It's a Ford straight axle and they made them for many, many years so they would all be alike.

You have to order it by tie rod diameter, either 1 1/2" or 1 5/8".

If you still need to know, I'm getting my coach back this weekend and I'll diameter of the tie rod. I believe the 99 and 2000 are the same.

The Roadmaster Reflex may bolt to the tie rod but the Steer-Safe bolts to the straight axle. His original question was that he wanted to order one or the other.
