1999 F53 v10 random "miss?"

I recently bought a 1999 National RV Seaview with a v10. It had sat for a time before I bought it and I had to drop the fuel tank, clean it out, replace the strainer, and inline filter. I have run 4 cans of Seafoam through it also. When the engine is idling it will randomly miss/pause/stumble. Sounds like its only one cylinder and there is no pattern to it, just seems to be completely random

Get a scanner.. then full tune.. and replace o2 sensor if has one.. also critters love tasty wires and rubber hoses and lines on rv.. they eat, short, nest and create havoc.. so.. when things go haywire and don't make sense keep critters in the back of your mind all the time.. look for there signs.. good luck and let us know what you did and maybe better members then me will help you

dawg,

Did you replace the fuel pump when you had the tank out????? The pump may already been replaced since the RV is a 1999 but you didn't mention installing a new pump!!!

The V-10 is notorious for bad coil packs. There is one for each cylinder and at $100 each can get spendy. 6 years ago I bought a 2000 HR. I went on a shakedown weekend and a good friend who is also a mechanic stopped me as I drove by. His trained ear heard a miss. Into his shop and sure enough, his $5,000 computer found 2 coil packs randomly missing.

He replaced those and threw a spare in the parts box. He also changed the plugs. They were not really bad, but apparently they tend to seize in the head. So he made sure they all came out fine and just went ahead and replaced them.

A random miss when idling is almost always ignition related.

Good for you at getting the fuel system cleaned up, but coil packs are next.
