2003 Triton V 10 coil packs

I am looking to replace all 10 packs and looking for a good source for them. I don't have an issue yet but they have 60000 miles on them. I just replaced the plugs about a year ago so I am trying to keep ahead of it. Any info would be helpful to me.

Did you change the plugs yourself?

I've changed two sets of plugs on the older V10s. Use the proper procedure per Ford and replace with the newer one piece plug.
FTE site is a good source for instructions.

Try this link. They are good quality and cheap. Also check for posts by Glenn NK. He just installed a set. Glenn paid about $30 for each coil. His first price was $100 each.

ACCEL brand | Part #: 140033E

My first COP failed at just over 94,000 km (58,374 miles).

The next two at 100,800 km (62,597 miles). I replaced nine of them last weekend - no more missing and poor power for me.

Mine are ACCEL

http://shop.accel-ignition.com/mmy/r...+V10+6.8+LITER

The part number on my bill is 140032 (it's an ACCEL number).

I think you can find them online.

Glenn

PS EDIT: I just read TeJay's post. Oddly I have a different part number for ACCEL.

I bought the first one from a Ford dealer at $110.38 CAD plus taxes. Then I shopped around and found nine of them for $263.79 CAD plus taxes.

You guys south of 49 should do as least as good as I did.

But I must add; considering the trouble I had on the road in hilly country, if I'd known I could do them myself for what it cost me, I would have replaced them all a year ago.

Yes I changed them myself. No issues they were not that tight like someone changed them and said that's good. Under torqued.

Did you have to remove the fuel rails and a couple of the brackets? I have not done mine yet. It looks like there are a couple of brackets and both fuel rails in the way.

When I changed the coils, I blew out each plug recess (have small compressor mounted in one storage bin). I was able to look straight down into each plug recess and it looked as though they could all be easily removed without removing the rails.

There was one bracket that I removed in order to change one coil (left bank, can't recall if it was No.3 or No.4).

It would seem that if the coils will come out and can be replaced, then the plugs being considerably smaller and shorter, should be no problem.

I tried to get one out but both of my plug sockets were too large.

Glenn

PS - the plugs are a long way down and will require a good extension.

I believe in sharing the road with other drivers; they can have the part behind me.

I didn't have to remove anything to get mine out. Just a collection of extensions will do it. I used a 5/8 magnetic spark plug socket that has a permanently attached 6" extension on it. The attachment was a wobble connection allowing some lateral movement. That made the job pretty easy. You will need a 7mm socket and extension for the coil hold down bolts. As Glenn said you need to blow out the plug holes before removing them.

Remember to follow Ford's TSB on changing the plugs or you may break one off. It's a 4 hour job if your do it correctly. Take your time soaking per instruction. (I use Kroil and carb. cleaner)

True but fortunately not everyone has the misfortune of owning a v10 with those nasty two piece plugs which have a bad habit of breaking. Mine were just the standard type plugs and lucky for me because one plug was bad.

Ford used the two piece plug from 04 - 06 or 07. Earlier V10's had one piece plugs. The issue with the early V10 was the number of threads in the heads. The main reason for failure, plug blow out, was improper torque, not tight enough. Make sure the replacement plugs are plated, not black. With the plated plugs there is no need for anti-seize.
