2015 Ford E 450 transmission issue

I have a 2016 thor four winds class C with a 2015 E450 ford chassis. Recently the gear selector lights started randomly flashing back and forth. The trans was also dropping in and out of gear as I was trying to drive. I pulled into a parking lot and had a family member who is a mechanic come and scan for trouble codes. 706, 707 are the codes found. He codes indicated the range sensor was faulty. Cleared codes and drove home about 7 miles. The sporadic problem came back right away and then went away but with some intermittent flickering of the gear selector lights. The next day we removed the transmission pan and located the sensor. It's actually part of a mechanical mechanism that has to be replaced as a unit. Since it would be a few days before I could replace the sensor I reinstalled pan, added new fluid and test drove. The trans worked as it should with no flickering of the lights. Any ideas?

Just from what I have seen the great members posted here.. if comes back.. check for loose ground wires.. could be internal or external to trans.. you probably started wiggling wires around when you worked on it.. so next time this happens.. do 5min check by using jumper cables.. put one end on external part of trans and other end to frame.. zip tie up.. drive short distance and see if that helps.. if so.. just run you own permanent wire from trans to frame.. if not.. you may have loose wire inside.. hopefully that is all..
Good luck and keep us posted

Before you replace anything, check the wire harness from the transmission to the pcm for rodent damage " chew marks/wires touching each other).
