Our 2015 5 speed V10 32' mh has been averaging 7.7 mpg after 8 fill ups. Driving equally on interstates and two lanes in the PNW. I make an effort to maximize fuel economy and travel about 55 mph tops with light acceleration. I follow slow trucks on the mountain passes because I like it quiet and relaxing in the cockpit, which it is at 25-30 mph at 2000-2300 rpm. I figure why would I want to go fast through the mountains, the scenery and views are nice and you can carry on a normal conversation or listen to the radio? Then again I never have a real destination, which means time makes no difference, even if it is just a weekend outing. So I arrive somewhere several minutes later, but I do it in a relaxed fashion. I will admit that driving for mileage, the returns are quite meager.
Our 1993 454 powered Bounder averaged 9.5 but this was a much lighter rv. Fully loaded could get slightly over 10 mpg out of tank in flat territory, this was before the subsidized corn gas era. Every tank was recorded. Cruised in the 50-55 range, the great majority of this mileage was on two lane roads.
Sure wish I had the 6 speed for the flat lands.
