Made first test run

OK. My wife and I did about an hour test run yesterday and so far I am pleased with the outcome of the new headers & exhaust.

It was a combination of 35-50mph back roads and 60mph freeway. The start of the freeway section was about a 2 mile uphill run, but not a steep grade at all. No problems at any point, the 60mph uphill was easily tackled and I could have accelerated more.

No additional exhaust noise inside the coach. Actually, less as the engine wasn't working as hard and was able to stay in 3rd and OD almost the entire run.

No heat problems at all but at about 4 miles from leaving the house I started smelling hot, burnt plastic so I pulled into a gas station/mini-mart and popped the doghouse cover off. No smells at all - in fact there wasn't any more than normal engine heat present. I looked back down the road and noticed someone was burning trash that obviously had a bunch of plastic in it. Phwew!

Now I feel we are ready to do some campin'!

Nick, I do plan on replacing the whole system. I do also know I have at least one broken bolt on the pass rear.

Yup, the rear bolts are the ones that are usually already snapped off before you even get started. I've read so many different forum threads with the same story. At least it is on the Passenger side which has more room to work around.

Nick,
You might consider picking up some heat shield tape and wrap nearby wire looms, hoses and tubing.
I noticed after the install of my Thorley's, plastic wire loom coverings were distorted from heat. Probably a slow melting process, none the less, the evidence was clear. Seeing this, I wrapped everything and anything in proximety of the headers.
