7.3L V8 Oil Drain Valve
I'd like to put an oil drain vavle on my 21 F53 V8. I've done one oil change but didn't measure the plug size. It looked to be M12-1.75 or maybe 1/2" coarse thread. Can anybody verify the size? It looks like a Fumoto 107sx or a femco might physically fit but I'm concerned the threaded length of those valves is quite a bit shorter than the Ford plug. Anybody install a drain valve on this engine?

I would like the answer to your question also. I emailed Fumoto directly and asked them what the correct size would be. If they get back to me, I will update the forum.

Is that oil drain plug also a level sensor/transmitter as that parts excerpt above seems to say. I just looked at mine and it looks like a plain ole plug.

The regular F series Fumotos won’t work because the drain is recessed into the pan, and there isn’t clearance to thread the valve in. The SX series valves might work. Femco and Stahlbus type valves should work due to their design (spring loaded no rotating plug). I’m a little concerned that the threaded length of all these valves is shorter than the stock plug and the pan is cast. The longest I coul find was a Femco at 14mm & I’ve got one on order. Sorry photos inverted

It looks like the Fumoto F107SX may work as it is a banjo style fitting. Hard to tell if there will be enough clearance for the valve protrusion to fit in the recess. They do list an extension so that might also be needed.
Not sure if I Like that setup, many seals/O rings with the extension.

Thanks for that heads up. I should have looked under my coach before linking the F137 Fumoto.
The Femco looks like it will require a large 22mm socket to install. Not sure if there is room.
Hex: 22mm
Thread (D): M12x1.75
T: 14mm
A: 24mm
B: 25mm
S: 2mm

If you can't find the exact fitting one can always search in places like Home Depot and find brass fittings to provide the necessary clearances and conversion of thread types so it will fit. Yes it might mean an extra fitting or two but so what. If they are brass adding some thread sealant will seal the threads and therefore be leak proof.
If you think it's sticking out too far and might get knocked off with some road debris install a metal cover in front or over it for protection.
IMHO sometimes one just has to think outside the box to make what can't work, WORK!!!

Did your Femco come in and does it fit?

I installed a Fumoto drain valve in a 99 Ford V-10 and did all of my oil changes. A few years down the road I was unable to continue and I ran into some problems when going to a dealership or other service places.
They refused to change the oil because the drain plug was not a factory-installed item. I asked them to take the plug out and install a factory plug after the oil drain and they wouldn't do that either. I then asked if I could go in the shop and remove it and they said no because of insurance.
I was shocked by their stance on this!
Something to check out if you might need it changed by someone else.

It speaks volumes about the quality of the help they hire that can't figure something simple out.
