Question Banks power mods - ECU too?

Just wondering if a V-10 motor gets the Banks treatment (at least air cleaner intake and headers/exhaust), is anything else especially the ECU - modified? I'd like to know before I splurge on something such as 5 Star (isn't that cheap) when the ECU as been reprogrammed already.

How does one know if it (ECU) has been reprogrammed? Would a OBD-II reader tell?

No OBD2 reader I've ever seen will tell you anything about any tuning that was done. I have a good consumer grade unit, one that can do sub-systems, and it won't. Maybe some high end dealer tool can do it. One time I had a tuner stolen out of my truck and I was pretty sure all I had used it for was changing the tire size. I asked the dealer (Chevy) if they could tell me if I had a tune installed and they said no. I just had them reflash it so I could be sure.

As to whether the Banks system has a tune included, my 2001 came with the Banks power pack (headers, exhaust), Ram Air intake and Trans-Command installed by the previous owner (my father in law). I don't think they changed the tune for the motor. I think that those are different products and that they aren't even available for my model year. You can search here and see if they even make it:

Should have updated this. The PoerPack can come with ECU programming. After I posted this, I found the old Banks OttoMind programmer. Haven't taken out the RV since it was purchased though.

Yeah that's what I meant by different products. I don't think it is standard but they are available. I'd be down with being able to throw a switch and run a mileage tune when rolling along a level stretch of highway.

I like having the headers. My old motorhome had a 454 with an iron manifolds. I could feel the heat through the floor when pulling up a grade, and I never pushed it hard. I'd run 1/2 throttle about 3500 RPM at ±40mph. I bet if I could see them they were glowing at the time. I don't feel any heat at all in this MH, and it is a lot heavier.

A Ford dealer should have the reader with the capacity to verify both the ECU software version but also a check sum for file size. Also a turner will normally advertise itself if you have a code reader that can go that deep into the ECU.
