Chassis Lube Question

First time greasing our F53 chassis, all went well until I tried the upper king pins. Both left and right I could only get two pumps on the grease gun. When it happened on the left I assumed the zerk was plugged up, but then found the exact same on the right. Is there a secret to getting these to allow grease in?

Try taking some weight off the front tires, get a helper and slowly turn the steering wheel back and forth a little while greasing. Or add a little heat if the old grease is solidified. Once they take grease keep pumping more than you normally would to push the old grease out.

I raise mine a bit..seems to help, but I use a pneumatic grease gun.

Ford's Response

Just as a follow up, I asked the Ford Engineer at our Tiffin Rally about the greasing of the upper king pins, he wasn't sure so followed up with Ford to get my answer. The answer was DO NOT RAISE the front end, if you do you are putting too much grease into the the king pin which has no where to go when lowered. Two pumps into the upper king pin was fine.
