Exhaust Gaskets Keep Blowing
Have changed exhaust gaskets on our v10 twice as they keep Blowing. Manifold is cleaned and checked flat each time.
Exhaust paste and new gaskets.
But sounds and looks like a couple have gone again.
What else could be causing this as we are out of ideas !

If you are having a repeated problem.. here is what I would try.. easily reversible if you don't like it.. and will not break the bank.. look up brake cooling kits.. I would add.. 3in round vent in lower part of cap.. somewhere will it does not draw attention.. then run 3in brake cooling hose over frame towards the exhaust manifolds.. so when you are moving.. cold air is directed to the manifolds.. one on each side.. go to your favorite online store.. look up.. you don't need a complete system.. just order the parts you like.. they make all kinds and sizes .. you may have to modify some parts.. that's me..
The next step for me.. if that did not help.. would be. Look at engine cooling and or larger exhaust pipes..
Good luck and keep us posted

A old suggestion... When You Stop, let the engine idle for a few minutes before shutting engine down..ie: let the engine and exhaust cool down first..

After market or OEM gasket?
Does it fail in the same location? For example top left (10 o-clock position) of cylinder 5?
Correct torque? Studs in the cylinder head to 71-115 IN/LBS, nuts on studs to 204-239 IN/LBS.
Original manifolds (as in factory installed) or a replacement? If replacement aftermarket of OEM?

exhaust manifolds
I had that issue years ago with a P-3 chassis 454. After a couple of gasket replacements I took the manifolds to a machine shop and had them machine the face to make them perfectly flat.
This worked and I had no trouble afterwards. worth a try.

Clean up both the head surface and exhaust manifold. Make sure they are flat. Forget the gasket and install. You can add high temp silicone to the manifold before installing. A ford is very bad about blowing out the gaskets, and breaking the bolts. Started leaving out the gaskets years ago in my shop and it stopped most of the problems. Another thing to do, is after driving it for awhile let it cool down then recheck the bolts and tighten if needed. If you feel you have to run a gasket in there just keep rechecking the bolts once a week until they are no longer coming loose. Found this to work on headers to keep the gaskets in place. The gaskets get flattened out when things heat up under loads then when it cools back down is when the bolts work loose.

The bolts or studs need to be changed as well.

Maybe try a new set of after-market fabricated manifolds.

We have the same coach and it doesn't have manifold gaskets and never did. Chuck

Thanks
Engine runs cool anyway. Friend has a fabrication business so will get some custom made intakes once had a look to see where they could be fitted.

Thanks
Will check it out. New studs and nuts each time.

One poster said his never had any exhaust gaskets. And our old Ford with the 460 never had gaskets.

Ford didn't use gaskets on the manifold to head on 460 or V10. Exhaust gaskets are just another thing to fail. Surface the manifolds, clean the port flanges and reassemble without gaskets.
