F 53 exhaust brake ?

I was just at a rally and someone told me you can get an exhaust brake for a f 53. Any one know of this?

If the 2008 has the Torque-Shift tranny, would you need an exhaust break?

Unless someone slapped a diesel engine into the F53 frame, your not going to put an exhaust brake on it.

exhaust brake

I don't know if there is a brake for the f 53 but I put a mountain tamer on a 454 that worked great .Set the brake for the speed I wanted going down hill and it stayed right there.

Doug

Never heard of a mountain tamer . I googled it and didn't find much. Only an article from 1995. What can you tell me about yours?
Mfg. , price , Etc.

The set up I had was a dual exhaust and a valve on each pipe in frount of the mufflers. Louis King in Phenoix AZ ran the company called decelomatic corp. It was on a carburated engine at first.I later put an edelbrock injection system in place of the carb and it seemed to work just as well. The big problem I had then was way to much power for the trany to handle

Thanks Doug.

Seems like too much work . I just got an SMI toad brake so it'll be easier to slow down than it was

The Direct Electronic Shift Control is the means of downshifting to reduce normal braking on downgrades with a gasoline engine. This site has a good description of the system:

Great article. I haven't been on any steep mountains yet with this f-53, but plan on going out west this spring and will enjoy this new tranny.

We just got back from a trip out west with our F-53 on a Georgetown XL 378 motorhome and had no problems mastering the mts in WY, MT, and UT. The braking system worked great down shifting the rig going down long 6 and 7% grades towing a 07 Saturn Aura with an even-brake system. My only question is that would a banks dual exhaust system give me any more power and economy. We got 7.7 mpg in the mts and 8.6 on the flatlands. A couple times it was higher, but I think it was a fluke.

I had a Banks on my 2001 f-53 and it brought the h.p. upto 362 ( same as my 2008 ). I didn't notice any better fuel mileage.I'd be interested to know how you applied the tow haul coming down steep grades. I'm told you just have to hit the brake pedal once and it will hold your speed. Did you find that to be the case?

Thanks for the information on the Banks system. I seem to have plenty of power in our 2008 Georgetown. And everytime I drive the rig, I put it into tow haul for the decelration braking system in the trans. It saves on brakes. Most times stepping on the brake once held me back. Other times it went to a lower gear when stepped on the brake pedal the second time, and I'm not used to having an engine go that high on the tac. When it did, I used the brakes to slow it down to an optum speed to release the second stepdown in the trans for the rest of the hill. We had a 05 GMC diesel (still have it)while towing a 38 ft Montana befor the motorhome and I seem to drive by the tac a lot. High rpms bother me.

This is exactly how the Torque-Shift tranny works. I had this same tranny on my F-350 prior to getting the MH. When the Tow/Haul mode is on, all you have to do it tap the brake and the tranny will downshift. Also, if you don't tap the brake and the MH senses it is picking up too much speed, it will downshift by itself.

I have descended many mountains in NC with a 39' 5ver behind and the Torque-Shift worked flawlessly. I have no reason to believe it won't work the same on the MH.
