F53 1999 Cruise Control..

Fleetwood Bounder 34J. 1999 Ford F53 chassis. V10 Triton.

We parked up for a couple of days and when on the road the Cruise would not switch on or work. No problems pria to this.

Have checked brake lights which seem to be working as they should, Took brake switch off pedal, checked and seems working as it should.
Checked fuses in box under dash and under hood, all seem fine but as we do not know whereabouts of Cruise fuse, unsure if it is somewhere else.

Is there anything else to check or how do you check the Cruise box itself.

Is there a available wiring scematic for the Ford Cruise system. Have been made to beleive the Ford Scorpio car has the same fitting kit..

Any help would be appreciated as I drive with handcontrols and rely on the Cruise to make driving easier.

Brian and Chris

In 1999 Ford calls it Speed Control and not Cruise Control.
Does your horn work?

As hometool noted, Ford did a recall on the switch. If you go to the master cylinder and check the side. You will find an elec. plug. Go down the wi
re a few inches and you will find a fuse. The fuse being blown would be about the number one suspect.
If you find the fuse blown replace it. If it blows again as soon as it is changed, it means there is a short in the switch and it needs to go back to Ford for a repair that they have to pay for.

Check for either power or ground at the brake pedal switch wire red/light green. If the switch is faulty you will have power on that circuit when you should not. It must be grounded for the cruise to work.

If the horn does not work I would bet you have a bad clockspring.

Thank you all.

Took the brake switch off and stripped, checked and put it back on. Also checked asround the master cyl and we have no fuse fitted there.
Is it the white plug on left hand side of cyl which needs the fuse fitted.

Also what size fuse do you fit in line. Is the power wire only power when ign switched on so we can locate right wire.

The Cruise is working again, so could have been sticky brake switch.

the fuse is a jumper harness that was installed during the recall. I don't believe it is attached to the master cylinder but lower on the distribution valve. I removed mine when I was trouble shooting my faulty brake switch on the side of the road so I don't remember exactly where it is but it is under the master cylinder.

This recall is a new harness that simply is added to the old harness. It takes about two minutes to install. It is important because the brake harness is always hot. (regardless if the ign. switch is off or on.) So there is a chance of a fire if the vehicle is parked in the garage. Ford had to buy a couple of burnt down houses.

The new harness would look something like this with a blue tag on it.

How or who is the best way to get this recall harness as we are in the UK. We are unsure who to contact.

Only Ford dealers are authorized to do this recall. Contact your local Ford dealer. Since you are in the UK I do not know how the recalls work. This is standard proceedures for the US and Canada. If you want, PM me your chassis VIN and I will see if it shows up or has been performed. I work for a Ford dealer in the US.
