F53 24k gvw v 26k gvw question
Ok I'm confused or missing something! What happened to the extra 2k capacity of the 26k chassis? Both are rated at 30k GCWR. That just doesn't add up. Why is the 26k chassis not rated for 32k GCWR? And towing capacity is less with 26k chassis @ 4k v 6k on the 24k chassis?
Dazed and confused

There has to be a limit for the V 10, transmission, frame and everything else involved. It looks like the GCWR limit is 30,000#.
The GVWR is higher but that doesn't change the GCWR. I believe the 26K chassis weighs 500# more than the 24K chassis leaving a difference in the 2 of 1,500#.

I think Mich F has hit the nail on the head. I actually would not have any problem towing a toad (or trailer) over 4K with the 26K chassis as long as it didn't exceed the 30K GCWR.
I also think it would not be unusual for the motorhome manufacturer to eat up the additional GVWR causing you to be stuck with the 4k towing limit.

Here is a problem for you guys to talk about. The picture is of a label on the entry door of my Tiffin 2014 36LA on a F53 chassis. Doing some math I added the water , gas, and people weight and ended up with only 735 lbs of cargo left to pack into the MH. I flat tow so I didn't add any hitch weight to the total weight. 735 lbs is not a lot of cargo.
I am guessing I exceed the weight limit just about every time I leave the drive way.

If you're talking about gas for the MH , that should be included in the unloaded vehicle weight. That would help a little bit.

Milom-
If you want maximum OCCC in the coach, pick the 26K GVWR chassis. If GVW = GVWR, then you are limited to flat-towing 4,000 pounds.
If you want to flat-tow up to 6,000 pounds, pick the 24K GVWR chassis. Lower OCCC, though.
Simple as that.

The only difference between the 24/30k F53 and the 26/30k with the same wheelbase is the rear spring rating (at least going back to 2014 if not further). We've covered this over and over. Look at the Ford chassis specs.......
The 24k has 15.5k rated rear springs on the 17.5k rate rear axle, and the 26k has 17.5k springs on the exact same 17.5k rated rear axle. They both have a 9k rated front axle. The differece in UVW on the raw chassis is something like 11#s, yes, eleven pounds, which is obviously how much more the heavier rated springs actually weigh.
Given most gassers have a 5k hitch, the 24k effectively has a 29k GCW limit vs. its 30k GCWR.
On the 26k with a 5k hitch, you are limited to 4k toad if you are at 26k GVW, or limit your GVW to 25k and and tow 5k (or any similar combination) to be at the 30k GCWR.
Per a note above, it is the the 24k chassis with an UVW 500#s more than the 22k, so you only net 1,500#s additional cargo capcity with that upgrade.
Regards

Yep, a 36LA (or 34PA) really limit what you can haul around on a 24k chassis. The "upgraded" chassis options on the Tiffin gassers have been around for a while, some "off the menu" some noted on the order spec. And yes, UVW does include full fuel (see below).
On the other hand, a 31 SA on the optional 24k chassis has plenty of cargo capacity, see below, and better than a 37PA Allegro Red DP and a 33' Breeze DP I saw at the Perry FMCA rally.
My fully loaded up for travel weight, with full fresh water and empty waste tanks is right at 22.6k (8,425F/ 14,200R) based on my 4 corner weight in Perry in March and consistent with a CAT scale weight a couple years ago. It is obviously a nice F/R weight distribution vs. axle ratings, and the front weight is almost perfectly balanced left / right too, while on the rear I have a bit more on the right side but nothing to be concerned with.
What I can't figure out, is that water, propane, and wife and I total about 1,100#, so somehow, we've loaded the coach up with another 2,400#s of "stuff"....... Yes, we do extended travel, but geesh.
If I was on a 22k I'd be a bit over 22k given the raw chassis weight differences and would have to drop some weight to pull my 4,600# Trailhawk.

For comparison, a V10 F650 or F750 is rated at 37,000 pounds GCWR. It has a lot of the same components as an F53, but not all.

Aren't those GVWR numbers, not GCWR numbers?

2018 F-650/F-750 Trailer Towing
Gas F650/750 have GVWR from 22,000 to 33,000 pounds it appears. Could build a pretty large Super C on a gas F650 or 750, and still pull a large trailer. Could go even bigger with a diesel, a lot bigger.
