F53 5 speed with 5star vs 6 speed

Hi,

I have read a lot of folk do not want to put a tune on a coach that still has Ford warranty left.

Let's not discuss the warranty aspect, I would like to hear of anyone that has driven a 5 speed with 5 star and a 6 speed stock or a 6 speed tuned.

Thanks,

I have driven both, I like the 6 speed better and I have loaded the 5 star on my 6 speed. It has made a difference on the shifting on hills. I usually drive 65 and will go up to 70 to anticipate a hill and many times I can stay in 6th gear over the hill. It is strictly a drivability preference because it doesn't help the MPG.

Had a 03 Class C. Put the 5 Star on it and was pleased. Moved up to a '18 Class A F53; pleased with the stock performance. Would probably consider 5 Star if I did a lot of mountain driving.

Hi Jerry,

Did you have the 5star on your 5speed?

Thanks,

Stephen

I have a 2015 Ford F53 Chassis 29' Class A, weight as I drive it down the road is 17,500 pounds, and I four down tow a 3,000 pound SUV. The 5 Star 87 Octane RV Tune makes a noticable improvement on the Ford 3 Valve V10 F53 chassis with 5 speed transmission in power and shift points.

Further improvements to Ford V10 power start getting pricey in the $ 2,000 range ( AKA Banks exhaust and intake upgrades ) , I have not felt the need for them.

If you buy used and get a pre 2016 VIN Ford F53 Chassis with the 5 Speed , get the 5 Star Tune, you won't regret it.

Thanks for the reply Randy, I already have the 5 star tune on my 2005 F53. It has made a big difference.

Our 2006 coach came with the Bank Powerpack (intake and exhaust), and from what I can tell, the Ottomind tune too. The previous owner (we're the third) didn't have the tuner, and says he never did. I have been toying around with the idea of the 5 Star tune. There were/are a couple for sale on the classified forums. I sent an email to them asking about buying second hand and how much it would cost to get it modified for my coaches specific configuration. Never heard back from them, so I've dropped that quest for awhile.

I called 5 Star and they told me their tests showed a tuned 2015 to be about the same as a stock 2016, but that a tuned 2016 was far better than both.
