F53 gvwr

Is the only difference between the various GVWR ratings the springs used or is there additional items changed? I ask because I am wondering if I can up my current 22K to 24K or 26K.

Thanks in advance.

Only the manufacturer can redo the vehicle GVWR .

Differences between the ratings can include thicker steel in the frame rails, different brakes, and other items besides springs

You can’t change the actual rating, but the only difference between the 24K and 26K are the springs. When we upgraded the suspension with Liquid Springs, we in effect (if not officially) upgraded to the 26K chassis.

Unfortunately, there are other difference with the 22K chassis.

The 24 & 26 K are built with a higher PSI steel. Also the there are 3 or different rear axles. The only difference between the 24 & 26 K chassis’s are the rear springs. Anything below that there are many additional differences.

You can find the F53 chassis specs on the Ford website here.

Thanks macnut and steve for this information on 24K and 26K chassis. My LS will be installed in 2 to 3 weeks. Mine is on the 24K chassis.
After Liquid Springs is installed front and rear, does that mean my actual, but not official, carrying capacity will go up? I am curious from your comments. I don't need to carry any more weight as I only weigh 23K fully loaded for a trip; but it would be nice to know if I could safely weigh 25K (even though it would not be legal). Is that the case?
Thanks,

Recertification of the GVWR can only be done by the manufacturer or an approved "upfitter"!

I'm sure Liquid Spring does not recertify (increase GVWR rating) on any RV chassis, due to liability issues.

Regards chassis weight versus GVWR.......were you stopped, weighed, and exceed GVWR, you WILL get a ticket!

And remember adding "Liquid Spring" suspension, also adds almost 600# of weight. I understand there are changes that could reduce the added weight to about 450#, but not 100% sure.

You will absolutely LOVE your Liquid Spring suspension!

Thanks in advance.
There are numerous significant differences between the 22K vs. 24/26K chassis that preclude any ability to upgrade. Download the F53 Chassis Specs from Ford's website to get the details.

Has anyone in the history of motor homes ever been ticketed for exceeding their GVWR?

Thanks all for the information. It solidifies the decision to upgrade to a Newmar Ventana 3407.

GVWR, almost certainly not. GAWR, almost certainly yes. Maryland weigh station signs require ALL vehicles over 10,000 lbs to be weighed. The signs no longer say "trucks".

See: https://davidwaranch.com/1137/learn-...ht-violations/

Excerpt: The law in Maryland is clear that all vehicles with a gross weight of greater than 10,000 pounds must stop at weigh stations. This also applies to vehicles like U-Hauls, even when they are carrying personal items. However, only commercial vehicles are subject to additional safety inspections.

I don’t think the Maryland situation is so cut and dry. NXR, have you pulled into a Maryland (or other state’s) weigh station in an RV? If so, was your experience different than noted in the article linked below? Given what’s in the article below, if I were driving through Maryland, I would skip the station.

We were going to but it was closed. We're rarely in MD.

I think the article you posted is pretty clear myself. They may just wave you on but why take the chance?

Personally, I do not take legal advice from RV sites.

And this has what to do with determining the differences between F53 chassis?

The OP posted that he's decided on a DP instead so we moved on.
