F53 won’t shift into 3rd
2007 F53 v10 motorhome. 4400 miles
just had complete top end rebuild.
test drive after putting top end back together and changing oil.
after few miles shifting to 2nd was hard. Kinda clunked and won’t shift to 3rd (automatically or manually) engine RPMs go up but won’t shift.
got code p0772 - shift solenoid E stuck.
things done so far:
- transmission fluid changed (looked fine still)
- transmission filter changed (looked fine still)
- shift solenoid E changed
- have pic of a piece of metal that was in trans pan when dropped. But don’t k ow how to add pic
has anyone had this? I have a new fuel pump, throttle position sensor and transmission temp sensor. Haven’t put any of these on yet.
please advise as I don’t know what else to do
Have pic but don’t know how to attach

Welcome!
There are a couple of folks that have experience with that tranny. Hopefully they will jump in soon. Loose metal in the pan isn’t a good thing.

Agreed. Didn’t look good.
Aggravating part is this is new to me RV. Never acted up at all while test driving and inspection.
Had for 6 months and still not able to use it.
With only 4400 miles it seems ridiculous that tranny would have problems

Finally able to load a pic
This could have been there since factory. Idk
Only 4400 miles on RV. Could this be TPS issue? I have new one but kinda tired of throwing parts at issue.
Nothing visual I can tell from where this came from

The bad news is you have a bad shift solenoid. The good news is it is easy to replace. Drop the pan and the solenoid is easily replaced. About $150.00. on a scale of 1 to 5 about a 2.

I have that in the “things done so far” section.
Of course could have gotten bad info as to which one was “E”

Mark kovelsky is a retired transmission engineer from Ford. Look him up on irv2. He is the expert on ford transmissions. He can give you CORRECT information on your transmission.

I did read the posts.
All I can think of is to clear the codes and see what happens.

To me that looks like the edge of clutch drum cracked off. Probably whichever one comes on with the sift to third. I bet there's a snap ring blown partially out of drum because of that missing chunk.
A transmission solenoid code means the computer is telling you that it commanded the solenoid like it was supposed to but the expected result didn't happen. It doesn't "know" the actual cause. Nor can it see broken parts.

When you find broken pieces in the pan you can generally rule out electrical problems.

I could be wrong, looks to me as if that broken part you found in the pan looks to be part of a clutch pac snap ring. Before I would put the valve body back in I would run a pressure test.
