Ford Godzilla plug wires

I have a 2022 Winnebago Adventurer 29B with the Ford 7.3L V-8. At 5000 miles cylinders 3 and 8 began misfiring in the Colorado Mountains. Couldn't find any Ford dealer in a four state area to help
Ford was no help. Researched the problem, purchased 8 "C" plug wires and installed them. Problem fixed for 6000 miles
Climbing a long grade coming out of Albuquerque #3 started misfiring.. I.am now in Louisiana and #8 is now misfiring. I only have some of the original wires. So I will try to change them tomorrow before we head to Florida . My question is... Has anyone else failed the "C" wires? If so does Ford have another upgrade in the works . Also has anyone tried to duct more are to the wires
My vehicle has the latest baffle.

Take a look at my post here comparing photos of the wires. Make sure that you actually have the new updated wires. I could see some crappy dealer getting rid of old wires they had sitting on a shelf. I have not heard of a single person having an issue once the updated wires were installed

It could be pointing to a different issue like coil packs and not really the actual wire defect causing your problems

I do have the latest "C" version. The wires fixed the problem for 6000 miles, so I'm sure they are the problem.

I changed out 3 and 8 on the road with the original spares and problem fixed. Will be OK until I get back to the mountains. Have to order more "C" wires if there is not a better version. I guess none of the aftermarket ones are as good as the "C" wires.

Like you, we had the #3 and #8 wires go bad driving through the mountains with the motor under high load heating. The real issue is two-fold: One, the old plug wires were poorly insulated -- that was solved with the new plug wires. Two, the engine, and especially the plug wires, are not getting enough air circulation to keep the wires cool. There's an upgraded engine baffle system that "should" be installed on the passenger side that is supposed to better direct air to that side of the engine.

I replaced all eight plug wires with the new style AND completely removed all of the plastic baffle from the passenger side of the engine compartment to improve air flow. Haven't had any issues since then. I also keep a few spare plug wires and keep my fingers crossed.

I too had the same issue (2021 Tiffin 32SA), with the Godzilla engine. It first happened when I pulled into St. George Utah in July 2022 with 105 degree weather for gas. 30 minutes after getting gas, going up hill towards Salt Lake City the check engine light came on. After the trip we took it into the dealer for the official recall fix and had the wires replaced as well as the new baffle (which required some cutting). This seemed to have resolved the problem... This summer (June 2023) we went through the CA and AZ desert to Grand Canyon, and at times near the colorado river (lake havasu) we hit 110+... no issues. So I'm hopeful that the fix, at least for us, is permanent.

Ford Plug Wires

Has anyone else failed the "C" revision Godzilla plug wires? Has anyone tried to duct air from the grill to the plug wires?

Ford made 3 corrective actions related to the plug wires:

1. They issued a TSB to cut the material on the passenger side of the radiator to allow more air to flow down the side of the engine. You should make sure you have this cutout. See attached file for details.

2. They updated the plug wires which you already have.

3. They added a baffle scoop thing that bolts on top of the passenger frame rail, this directs air from the radiator fan and channels it down the passenger side, probably to assist in cooling when not moving - could also be a permanent fix and #1 is no longer being done on new models. You could look at purchasing and adding this deflector to yours. See attached file for details

My 2021 chassis had was built with the latest baffle fixes but the early plug wires. After failing the original 3 and 8 wires after 5000 miles, I installed 8 "C" wires and failed the 3 and 8 wires again in the mountains after 6000 miles. The baffle fixes are on the 1,2,3,4 side of the engine and did not work and also do nothing for the 5,6,7,8 side of the engine. Ford has not been of any help. I'm looking at ducting air to the plug wires on both sides of the engine.

How close is the doghouse and structure around the engine?

The Ford builders' handbook calls out a minimum space around the engine for airflow. I wonder if yours is closer than it should be leading to additional heating around the engine

My F53 chassis was manufactured in late October 2020. It was after the TSB was issued so was built without the baffle, but with the original A wire set.

I had the #8 wire fail around 8,000 miles. It was not a particularly warm day - high 60s - but we were climbing the short, steep grade up to Watkins Glen state park in New York. More than 10% grade IIRC so the rig could only manage 20MPH at full throttle.

I replaced all eight wires with the updated parts and had no additional problems until the rig was sold with 21k miles on it.

I wonder if the house builder has any effect on the cooling or likelihood of failure? My rig was a Tiffin Open Road FWIW.

My Winnebago Adventurer 29B is very tight around the engine. I have looked and have not found a way to duct more air to the plug wires. I am waiting for a call back from a Ford service adviser. I'm not sure what else to do, but am dreading going back to the mountains.

I've the same 29B. I completely removed the plastic baffle on the passenger side to open up the air flow to the engine. Since then I've had no issues -- even going through a lot of steep grades in the Smokies.

I also have some spark plug heat shield boots from Amazon which I will install as soon as practical.

Plug wire fiber insulators

Does anyone have experience with plug wire insulators on the Godzilla V-8?
