Hi there! the dreaded 460 ford manifold problem would not be an oval plate on the right side of the carb would it?If it is i have it. any ideas?

Short answer, No. The "460 manifold problem" is concerning the exhaust manifolds. You seem to be referencing the intake.
Other than that, I'm not sure of your particular problem - my 460 is fuel injected (no carb) so I can't relate.
