Ford Triton V10 6.8l low rev misfire
Hi,
I have a low rev misfire (not on idle) on my 2000 Ford Triton V10 6.8l engine. I have replaced the spark plugs, coils and air filter and it's not as bad as it was but still misfires.
Once I put my foot down, the misfire clears and it revs fine but at low revs, when it's changed gear, that's when I notice it the most.
The service light is on and I've ordered an OBD2 scanner to help but can anyone recommend where else to look or suggest common problems with these engines. It's only done 33,000 miles.
Thanks.

I too have this engine, but am not aware of 'common problems'. These engines are bulletproof.
The only issues they ever faced were occasionally improper spark plugs threads in the heads of the 2-valve models, and spark plugs coming apart on the 3-valve models.
No need to guess and waste time, clearly the CEL tells you something is wrong, so have it checked out, then you know for sure.
Most aftermarket OBD scanners can not access all the information available, you need a computer that costs several thousand dollars. The dealers and professional repair shops have them.
I have the 2-valve model and a misfire just as you described. A helpful RVer checked with his OBD scanner, told us a oxygen sensor was bad.
Went to dealer, they checked and found that one of the spark plugs came loose, because of a improper plug thread. They redid the thread and all is good now.
Mine is a 2001 model in a 25 footer. Am very happy with this engine, totally oversized, but what a smooth run. Hope you enjoy yours as well.

It is quite possible you have a new defective spark plug. I, too changed out the plugs on our V10 and had a misfire on cylinder 5. Turns out the brand new Motorcraft plug was defective, changed it out and voila!
When you get your new scanner, it should be able to tell you at least what cylinder is throwing the error code, if not the cause.
Also, the deep plug well makes it easy to not get the plugs lined up properly in the hole, resulting in cross threading. Check and double check when installing.

Is the light on steady? Flashing will indicate mis-fire, steady will be error.

(Assuming all IGN components working properly, 1) Check the PCV Valve HOSE connections to manifold, as it ages, can pop off or crack/ leak and cause a LEAN condition; 2) ADD appropriate volume of INJECTOR CLEANER to Fuel Tank (LUCAS, maybe is my preference?) A faulty spray/ spray pattern can cause stumbles; 3) Change FUEL FILTER on chassis, near under/ passenger area on many? May require some creeper search? 4-8-oz of MMO added to OIL may also help? (Do NOt overfill)
