Ford V 10 exhaust Manifold studs

Well after working 60 plus hour a week for the last 2 years, I have been unable to get to my exhaust manifold studs. Had 9 rusted away between both sides. No leaks. Had me worried. Found a shop by me. They did both sides, milled the manifolds, gaskets and flange studs for 700 dollars. I'm pretty sure this was a great price... Have a safe holiday all....

Common problem

That seems to be a common problem with the Triton engine. Had it on my 1999 F150 and again on my 2003 F350 V-10. Mine were leaking and the ticking sound drives you up a wall. Had one side fixed, last year and the other side just a few weeks ago. Those rusted studs are a pain to get out!

That sounds like a good price. I just did mine on the pass. side and one stud fought me all the way. I ended up drilling it out. It wasn't rust for me, just two that broke off so I'm thinking it is a common problem like empty nest said.

I have to get the right side of ours done. On our last long weekend, 3 hours each way, the ticking noise was making me crazy. I'm planning to have it done this fall, before I put it away for the winter. Ours is a Ford V8 though.

I would almost bet that is a cracked manifold. It happened to me twice on my last m/h and from what I read it is a very common problem for the 460's. I had a shop replace it the first time and it lasted a year. If I had to do it again I would just go to headers.
I sold the m/h to one of my old employees and he just patched it with muffler cement and some red tape kind of stuff we have used in the shop. He drove it from Alberta to Nova Scotia and it still doesn't leak. lol

Yes, actually I have a crack and some broken bolts. I had considered a patch, but didn't know if it would work. My mechanic didn't think it would be a good idea either. I'd like to get enough years out of it until maybe we trade up or something.

I didn't think it would work either but after he drove across Canada with no leaks I was wishing I hadn't wasted the time and money the first two times. If you are in there changing broken bolts I guess you might as well change it.
