Ford V-8
So, what's the consensus, is the sort of new Ford V-8 a good buy now or should I limit my search to 2020 or older? I'm a big fan of the V-10 but they just don't make them anymore.

My new motorhome came with a 2021 Ford V8 and I am very happy with it.

I really like the new V8 on my 2021 Thor Axis. It gets 12+ mpg on Interstates and 65 mph freeways running in the mid to lower 60s.
They did have problems early on with spark plug wires, but that has been all sorted out by now. There is a recall for brake and steering hydraulic hose inspection/replacement and the dreaded Service AdvanceTrac error hasn't been resolved yet, but that isn't really an engine issue.

We have a 2022 Ford 350 with the 7.3l, 4:30 axle and the standard 10 speed trans, pulling an 8000lb trailer. We have had it on some big grades and it has amazing power allowing any uphill speed you want. After having several gas and diesel trucks in the past this power train combination is actually our favorite. Decent mileage (10.3mpg, level, no wind), great power and no DEF.

v8
coming from a v10 which was a good engine to the v8.
The new camper class C is 4 foot longer and 2500 pounds heavier, have more power and hill climbing capability, while getting 2 mpg better. so far very pleased.

Looks like I may expand my search to include the V-8 powered chassis.

The few folks I have talked to about the &.3L gas engine are pleased with it. The only complaint is fuel consumption... it is thirst like and large block engine used to get the power.

I owned the V10 for about 5K miles. I have about 3K miles on the new V8. I believe its a decent improvement. One thing I really notice is that its much quieter and I can carry one a conversation in the front of the motorhome.

Dr W and I just drove 1875 miles from NYC to Kentucky in our new Entegra Emblem 36H with 7.3 V-8 avg 7.5mpg to 9.5 mpg. Awesome engine that never missed a beat going through West Virginia or any mountains. Yes its loud when the second fan comes on but real happy with the performance. Had a 40' diesel pusher for 16 years and couldn't justify the extra expense of $125,000.00 plus to step into the new DEF plagued units, KISS works for us.

We have about 4300 miles on our '22 Bay Star with the 7.3 and are pretty happy with the engine. Took a fully loaded (including water) coach over a 12,300 ft pass without issues. Temp gauge didn't budge even through the switchbacks @ 15 mph. It was working hard and the additional cooling fans occasionally came on, but it never wavered. Runs smooth, has more power than expected and getting about 8 mpg towing a toad. It will be a while before I can report on dependability, but so far so good.

I owned a V10 on a 2020 Baystar Sport. And I now own a V8 on a 2022 Baystar. To me the V8 is better but not by a great deal. It is quieter upfront for sure and that has been nice to be able to carry on a conversation. Seems to be a little more powerful....a little quieter revving up. I like the newer chassis ride quality much much better. Even so, I had Liquid Springs installed on all four corners. I really enjoy driving the coach now.

V8 works Gr8!
We just rolled over 10,000 miles the other day on our Gulf-to-Coast and back trip: Tampa, FL to Vancouver, WA and back.
Yes, there's noise when the second fan kicks in. We've been over several mountain ranges since we started. The "Change Oil" notification came on recently, so we're getting that taken care of in Salt Lake City tomorrow.
The engine works well--I did have an issue with the "Wrench" light (electronic throttle control), but thanks to members here I turned the rig off, turned it on, and everything works fine. Seems to be an anomaly when fighting strong headwinds.
My mileage ranges between 7.3 and 10, depending on the speed and grades of inclines I'm tackling.

From V10 on a 16K chassis
I have not done any modification on my 2022 chassis and it handles so much better than my 2013 Vista after $6K of modifications/improvments.
Of course my new RV rolls on Michelin 22.5 vs 19.5 Good Year, the wheelbase/lenght ratio is better, but Ford did improve their chassis noticeably.
