I have a 2003 Winne Brave 34' with the Ford Chassis & V-10 engine. Soon after we bought it new, I read about the popping noise caused by a lack of "Z" brackets on the front end. They were replaced under warranty, and I added the Davis Tru-trac and the Safe T plus. Recently, about 3 months ago, the front end noise started again. I'm not mechanically inclined, but I can follow directions. My question is this, do any of the more mechanically inclined people here have any suggestions as to potential problems to check? It's difficult in this area to find a Ford shop that will take a motorhome, but I only have about two weeks left on the warranty. Thanks Firesheep

A thought would be that there is something wrong with those Z brackets. Have you been able to check them out to see if they are still properly mounted? I dont know what kind of noise the safe-t-plus makes if it is going bad.
Hopefully others may jump in here and help.

Thanks ISLAPP, It's supposed to warm up some tomorrow, and I'm going to borrow a torque wrench and crawl under the MH and check for tightness on all nuts and bolts regarding the Safe-T-Plus and Davis, and "Z" brackets. Firesheep

ISLAPP, Just an update-I finally got under the Motorhome and checked the tightness of everything chassis that I could find. Will be going to Dothan, Al. this weekend. I guess that will tell me if I did any good. Will let you know.

If your hearing this popping noise at low speeds and especially on turns. Check your wheeliners to see if there hitting on the rims at any point. If so you can shim them out with a washer on the wheel stud or as some have done split a piece of plastic tubing, cut it in pieces about 2" long and place over the rim edge in about 6 places. Then replace the liner.

I have been using the split plastic hose pieces on my wheel covers since 01. Besides keeping them quiet they keep the cover from abrading the wheel which causes unsightly rust. Does not affect wheel balance at all.

ISLAPP, An update to my original post. Drove to Marianna, Fl. (about 200 miles one way from home) this weekend. Whatever I tightened up did the trick, no more popping noise. I re tightened the Davis tru trac mountings and the Safe_T-Plus, and other things, so I'm not sure which one did the Job. Anyway, it sure sounds a lot better. Thanks, everyone for the ideas. That's good news. Glad it wasnt anything serious. Now that is one more thing to add to your maintenance list!

007, I used a torque wrench that I borrowed from a mechanic friend of mine. I thought I set it according to the Tru-tracs directions. However, there must have been some reason it was getting loose! I will keep an eye on it, tho. Thanks all for the info. Love this forum. Firesheep
