Headlights OFF when switch in ON position... and Visa Versa
Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been scouring for a few hours, and haven't been able to find an issue that replicates what I am experiencing.
We recently welcomed a new to us 2010 Fleetwood Bounder Classic 30T to the family, built on a 2008 F53 chassis.
We had an issue pop up today where the headlights turn ON when the interior switch is in the OFF position, and then turn OFF when I click the switch to ON.
When the switch is in the ON position, all exterior running and height marker lights are ON as expected. Turning signals all work front and rear, as well as brake lights illuminated, just not the headlights.
I've been able to find F53 manuals, and what looks to be headlight wiring schematics. While I'm mechanically inclined... I am an extreme newbie with electrical systems.
Has anyone experienced this before? Is it as simple as an inversion in wiring somewhere? Bad grounding? Relays?
Just don't know where to start, and and direction with that would be much appreciated.
TIA!

I don't know your coach but I'm wondering if you have a switch with a loose knob. Maybe the knob indicates one position but the switch in another?

Some headlights use a relay due to wire sizing and power concerns. The typical 5 pin automotive relay has both "normally open" and "normally closed" pins and if the wire was moved it would have the symptoms you describe.
Using your schematic, start at the headlight and work back to the switch. If you first come to a relay, I'd check the vehicle wiring on the relay. Good luck.

jm00ser-
First off, welcome to iRV2!
Second, you should add a "signature" to your profile. It contains whatever info you want; most people put info about their coach there, so they don't have to type it into each message. Instructions for adding a signature are here.
Re: Headlights. The diagrams below should help you sort things out. The fuse numbers are probably the same for your 2008 chassis.

You may be turning on Daytime Running Lights.
When you turn on the headlights, they just don't work.

I think twin boat wins. When you checked the headlights, was the ignition switch on or the engine running? If so what you saw was daytime running lights not headlights. Your headlight relay or headlight switch is probably bad.

Update:
Again thank you all for the help-
DRLs were exactly what was being seen in the off position. Replaced Relay 9, and Fuse 19 just to be safe, and this solved the on/off issue.
However, discovered that high beam fuse 35 was placed in the wrong slot by previous owner, when checking high beams that didn't work/no dash indicator.
Moved from 29 to 35, and everything now works beautifully.
Relieved it wasn't anything major. Thanks again for the tips.
