I'm tired of hanging upside down(trailer brake connector)

I'm almost at what little wits end I have left trying to find the the little plastic (or whatever it's made of) connector to hook up my, "plug and play" brake controller.

I've searched high and low and in between looking for the little devil and read every post on this site to figure out where it's at under the dash.

Out back where the hitch receiver is located there are two, yes, I said TWO flat connectors for towing a trailer of some kind. One is a 4 way flat and the other is a FORD designed 6 way flat with a blue wire for electric brakes! ARGH!!!! Why can't I find the connector or suspicious looking wires that may have something to do with the wiring in the back under the dash???

It seems like every post I've read about a Damon Day Light MH, the connector is suppose to be on the left side of the brake peddle and it varies in color depending who grabbed which one when they were building this monster in 2001!

Which reminds me. How is one suppose to bend over the dog house on one's back and look under the dash to locate the connector? You have to be some kind of height impaired contortionist or a darn(can I say that?) skinny snake to get anywhere near the left side of the brake peddle!

Now that I have ranted and raved like the lunatic I'm becoming, can anyone give me a helpful answer?

Mr Cactus; We bit the bulltet and had the dealer install the controller. It took the tech about 20 minutes and it worked correctly the first time.

That's a great idea but I want revenge or satisfaction by doing myself. I have no issues begging for advice from those with the knowledge!

It's there. However, mine was on the right side of the steering column tie wrapped up high to a bundle of wires with a plastic bag on it.

My friends was also on the right side. Also, instead of hanging upside down we used a mirror. The size they use at the barbershop so you can see the back of your head.

This is what my Ford trailer connector looked like. I cut it off and used the pigtail for my brake controller.

Well today we attacked the dash and still couldn't find the connector. Wrapping one's self around, over and through the dog house, Model 210 joy stick and the ever present driver's seat things were getting a little bit on the testy side. The biggest problem was getting around the driver's seat. So we removed the four bolts holding the seat in place moved it out of the way and began the search in earnest.

I took the first shift and couldn't find it. A neighbor was over for moral support and he tried and couldn't find it. Larry, the friend who fixed the 210 joystick showed up and he had a go of it. We took the radio out so we had a better look at everything and still no wires in or around the brake pedal or the column.(The infamous right side of the column) Larry started looking way left of the steering column and he started laughing. I asked what was so funny. He said, "I found it up and under a bundle of wires at the very top of the dash behind the ac/heater tube"!!!

Big sigh of relief and ten minutes later the plug and play brake controller was installed as well as the radio back in it's place and operating! We put the chair back in position and bolted it back down nice and solid.

One adult beverage(make that a double) later and the attitude is back to normal and I have a smile on my face as well as the little woman. I do so love a challenge and this was just another notch I can put on my knowledge belt.

Thanks to all who offered their knowledge and experiences in this educational opportunity! I hope that the next person who has a similar situation as myself reads this post and has a easy time with their controller installation.

You didn't mention what year chassis your motorhome is built on. If it's an older 2 valve per cylinder model Ford did not run all the wires to the trailer hitch socket. Ford only ran the wires to the back of the original frame members. The body builder (in your case Damon) extended the wires to the rear of the coach and installed the socket(s). In most cases the body builders didn't run all the wires to the socket. There is a #10 blue wire for trailer brakes that generally isn't hooked up.

If you need the trailer brake wire follow the wiring harness from the socket to the left frame rail. Any wires that the body builder didn't connect to the socket will be inside the wire loom at the junction of the original frame rail and the extensions installed by the body builder.
