Lug nut torque

I was having a discussion with a neighbor about lug nut torque on my 22.5 wheels. Having seen the wheels removed from his motor home in the past I asked him if he had and used a torque multiplier to tighten to 450 pounds. He stated he has always tightened his lug nuts by standing on the end of a 2'6" piece of pipe placed over the handle of a breaker bar. His logic was his 200# times 2.5 = 450. Does this sound right? Could it be that simple?

Nope, he's getting 500 ft lbs. 200 X 2.5 = 500.

My three DP's have all taken 500 ft lbs though and that was molded right into the lugs.

Or use a 4 1/2 foot pipe and push 100 pounds.
