Unhappy Mechanical questions... transmission & other stuff

. Soooo I don't know how to handle this. My lovely RV, that iv grown very fond of and has been pretty good so far, is turning into a train wreck. I was hoping beyond hope that my gut was telling me one thing, but my knowledge over rides .

Ok to the point. .. I check my fluids pretty regularly I mean at least every other week and so far so good. But remember my last post I was saying how she was feeling funny she was driving different I'm getting to know how it feels to drive an RV so it's been all new to me. So but I checked my trani and I'm not going to get into the big long story of it but to my surprise it was very low. So I thought I've been obviously looking from you know into the engine everything looks pretty good so I thought of all the sun's still out it's a nice day I'll just get under there and take a peek. You know my brother took the responsibility of getting this RV for me and I was hoping that he was taking the time to really get a decent RV for a decent price and I always wondered why he dropped it off in such a hurry and didn't go over anything with me and just split. Because he knows that I would know immediately what's up and I should have seen the writing on the wall but I had surgery at that moment and I was kind of out of it and now I'm just really disappointed. I put two quarts in cuz that's all I had from the previous owner and I was kind of wondering why is he carrying transmission fluid in in the little you know compartment well when I checked it again it didn't register. It occurred to me that there are some vehicles where you can check it but the car running and it'll look like it's low but it's really not registering it's just a splash even if you wipe it off and stick it in again it it was funny cuz it was a Ford that used to do this to me all the time so then I started realizing okay I'm in trouble so I put some more tranny fluid in it would ran a little bit better but it got really low right away again I get under there and there's stuff going on under there some leaking that is not obvious and I don't know what to do I know it's extremely expensive I don't know if my train is going out or if it's serviceable I don't know anything about this type of transmission I know everything you want to know about a turbo 400 for a Pontiac but this is all new to me and it's huge and it's intimidating and I need some advice if someone could reach out to me that's familiar with the hurricanes and their transmissions and maybe educate me a little bit on them see maybe is it just the bands maybe it just needs a service thing maybe it's a lot more I'm just beside myself because my brother knows that I can't afford a money pit and he knows that I don't have money to begin with and I the thought that he didn't even take the time to look underneath the RV at the chassis to see what secrets it's holding blows my mind because there's other stuff too that's not transmission related but it's angered me and I just I'm shocked so I have a little bit of a road ahead of me but I can only tackle one thing at a time but I want I need to deal with the transmission first cuz I can't even drive it I drove one block and I had to pull over because there's no power she's not shifting she went from just struggling a little bit to seriously having an issue right away and I'm sorry I'm blabbing on but I needed to vent as well I really could use some help and advice and I appreciate it and if you want to private message me that's fine too I I need to learn a few things and I have a phone call into my other transmission guy from back in the day and hopefully he can give me some knowledge but everybody's closed for the weekend so I'm stuck where I'm at by my job can't go anywhere and just hope I don't get harassed by anybody and I'm going to educate myself on this whole thing so thanks you guys you rock you're always there for me and I I appreciate it.

And if there's any other owners of of the hurricanes out there that could give me some insight that would be awesome of what their experience was and mine's a 2003 32 ft class a Triton V10 I have no idea what kind of tranny it is I need to learn about that but I would love to discuss and talk about your experience if you are able or you can reach out thank you again.

Some basics first. An automatic transmission MUST be at normal operating temperature to accurately check fluid/oil level, unless the dip stick has a "full-cold" mark in addition the the standard "full-hot" mark.
Since I do not know about your specific MH I'll stop here.

You have a bad leak somehere. I can't see it from here. Someone needs to get under the RV and find out where it is leaking. Fix the leak and it will probably be fine. The more you drive it with this leak the more chance you have of doing major damage to the transmission.

i agree. you have a leak. But if the tranny has been functioning ok there's a good chance that's all that is wrong. If that's the case you thou it will cost you some money to fix it, but it will be money well spent.

I could be wrong but there are not many places for fluid to leak out so it should be easy to find. A bad pan seal? a leaking rubber hose that connects to the tranny cooler? Some MH's even have an external filter that also could be leaking.

You should take it in for service if you can find anyone to work on it.
Find and fix the leak, and, it would be money well spent to have the tranny filter and fluid changed at the same time. Even if this cost you $1000 it would be nothing compared to getting a new transmission.

If you could find a trusted auto mechanic to look at it and find the leak ( even if he doesn't fix it ) this would be the first step into fixing your problem.

That's all great advice and I agree with all of you. I checked the training cooler and I didn't see any leakage there it's really hard for me because it's so big under there it's so funny I feel like an ant I noticed where the differential is there's a it looks like the differential is leaking I thought great cuz it had this familiar hum that my GTO had when it had a leak and it's differential but the only other place I can think of that I couldn't quite get under to was you know where the tranny cooling lines go to the transmission I'm going to have to do that I have a call into my training guide that did my GTO so hopefully he'll make some time and take a look at my my transmission hopefully if I put fluid in it I can get it there it's not that far I'm just really down and I appreciate all your guys's help and I just needed some encouragement and some reinforcement because I'm all alone out here and it's just nice to have some validate what's going on like I said I've worked on cars for many years it just an RV's awful intimidating and it's been a long time since I've gotten underneath the anything. I'll keep you all posted much love from California.

Unlike engine oil transmission fluid generally isn't "burnt up" like engine oil can be. There should be a big mess where the transmission fluid is leaking. Find the mess, clean it up well, fill the transmission, take the rig for a 20 or so mile ride and you should be able to locate the leak. Once the leak is located the repair should be obvious. One more thing, oil doesn't generally run up so find the top of the mess and that should be where the leak is although that is not always the case. Good luck.
