No and no.
FORD specifies to use only 87% octane in F-53, V10 MH's. Read the manual for specs. In a pinch using higher octane gas wouldn't hurt I'm sure if that's all there's available but not on a regular basis. Additionally I use only 87% top tier gas based on verified, documented and tested reasons for long term engine health. But some folks have their own opinions and can do whatever they want.

I can read. I did not offer my opinion. Per the FORD 2018 F53 Owners Manual
For best overall vehicle and engine performance, premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 or higher is recommended.

Last Year, (for giggles/grins) I downloaded 8+ OMs from various years and found that Octane recommended does vary by year; some mention 87 Only "or see your service tech if...", some like yours, "for best performance..."

I own an E450 Cutaway Chassis, not a F53. My Ford Owner’s Manual says
"Your vehicle is designed to use “Regular” unleaded gasoline with pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87. We do not recommend the use of gasolines labeled as “Regular” that are sold with octane ratings of 86 or lower in high altitude areas."
That's it. I checked several years of F53 Owners Manuals before I posted and they all said just what I posted. No warning not to use fuels with octanes higher than 87. What mr.tommy replied with to my post is hogwash, misinformation, and an old wives’ tale. People here deserve to know the truth.

I thought my noise was spark knock or ping, but this video shows the problem and the noise which sounds exactly like mine does. https://youtu.be/Oa6cr2dFkPE
Earlier V10 engines had an additional idler pulley located where the video shows the belt flapping.

It's the belt not the engine
Hello all
2018 class c with 5,000 miles. Thought I had a ignition ping took to Ford they could not find anything. I went to parts department and gave them the last 8 digits of my vin. Number told them I wanted the ldler pulley and bolt that holds it on. That same pulley and bolt fits on the timing cover boss on right side (when looking at engine) I just pushed on belt and the pulley slipped onto the boss. I put some blue locktite on bolt and tightened it. Did not have to remove anything to do this. Noise is gone! If you have a motor noise around 1,800 to 2,100 rpm this worked. I will put on the continental belt at some point.

Great to hear it's easy to install.
Thanks for letting us know.
Cheers!

What model year is your chassis? How many ribs does your belt have?
According to the Rockauto listings, Ford went from an 8-rib belt in 2001 to a 6-rib belt in 2002 and up. This may also explain why the second idler pulley disappeared.

Idler pulley part number
Hello all
The idler pulley runs on the outside smooth side of the belt. When I put it on it didn't put a lot of pressure on belt.
Part number for pulley 1L2Z-8678-AD paid $15.18
Part number for bolt it has washer attached N808102-S437 $2.75
I did get a small discount on price.

Please explain your thinking. I have never heard of too much octane being harmful. An octane rating is simply the ability of the gasoline to resist pre-ignition or spark knock. Too little octane can be an issue, especially in older engines, but I have never heard of a situation where too much octane is an issue. BTW octane is not a percentage it is a number.
