My $100 sears (on sale price) hot dog air compressor does a good job. Not much heavier than the Viair but a lot bigger so takes a bit more space to store.

Whatever you buy look at the CFM@90psi otherwise you’ll spend a few hours on your tires. My son in law bought a pancake compressor a Lowe’s for $99 that can run medium sized power tools and half the size of my harbor freight unit.

You can go to any paint ball shop and get a high pressure air tank filled. I used to use one as an option to a compressor for my guys installing products with nail guns. You can get a single stage regulator set a various pressures. Pick the pressure you need when buying. Also stop at a welding shop and look at tanks.
A small compressor would probably be less trouble. I use an oil lubed Rolair model that is top quality. Weighs a little more but the little dinky models take forever to fill to high pressure. You get what you pay for.

Reliable pump
No doubt about it - Viair. Excellent for the big DP tires on a prior RV. Now used on my Travato.

Air Tank
Use a 20# welders tank filled with CO2. Have a air tank regulator set at 100 psi, air hose, nozzle and impact hammer. Hammer to change tires 👍

Air pump
I am not going to suggest a brand but think you need to think about the type of camping you do. My wife and I dry camp reasonably often, and required an air pump that did not need to be plugged in. We carry an extra battery that I use for my CPAP and purchased an air pump that we hook up to the battery when need be. Hope that helps.

My $99.00 Porter Cable finished a dozen or so houses and now resides in the RV - It pumps to 150 and has a 6 gal tank - I check the air before every trip - actually check it at every stop, with a walk around - on the last set of Michelins (14 years) - added air maybe three or four times in 14 years - mostly for temperature and elevation changes.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Viair
I am happy with the Viair RV series. Don't remember if it's the RV400 or RV450.
One of them pumps faster, but is not 100% duty cycle. The other pumps a little slower, but will run continuously.
Regards,
Jerry

Pump for tires
I have an additional question. My diesel has an air hose connection on the front and back of my rig. Can they be used to fill, tires?

Simple answer is yes, sort of.
Here's a video describing the process:
https://www.thervgeeks.com/maintenan...sure-rv-tires/
You may notice that their more recent videos relating tire inflation favor using a ViAir compressor.
Take care,
Stu

I do not know why people with air brakes would not rig up a hose off the air system on the coach??? Works fine, slower than my shop air but I am sure it is better than some of the alternative methods I am reading about here.

N2zon.
That idea works well, except, the air compressor runs up to ~150lbs then shuts off until it drops to 65lbs.
I met a gentleman a couple of years back that had a slow leak he had to air up every morning. He had an electric air pressure multiplier in line with his supply line that was almost silent and gave him 130 lbs from 65 lbs input.
I sure wish I'd asked him for the brand!
