New Ford 7.3L engine problems

OMG more Ford spark plug problems and now the spark plug wires and coil issues on the new 7.3 and people cant get the parts, 3 month or longer wait..

This problem is showing up as little as 500 miles on the motor, what will be the problems after 10,000 miles ?

I will keep my 08 Bounder till she dies a hard death, long live the V-10...

I liked the comments about contacting Ford Credit.

Cut 'em off at the pocketbook and watch them squeal and run.

Now why can't Ford get the parts from the factory and delay making a few engines a few weeks?

Oh, the bottom line, can't have that. Let us just mess with the customer and tell them "It's not our fault, but keep making your payments."

So is there any new 7.3L Ford V-8 owners on this forum, would like to here from them if they are having issues, this ought to screw up your camping trips..

I'd caution everyone to slow down just a bit. There are A LOT of new 7.3 gassers out there and a few problems don't equal an epidemic. This is all sounding like the Twitter "mob" getting a bug up their butt and going crazy. And for full disclosure, I own a Ram and have absolutely zero reason to stand up for Ford in any way.

Not to make things worse but....

I read on a private Facebook group for class C RV owners, that one member had a brand new E-450 class C RV with the new engine that can start itself. In the middle of the afternoon, they hear the engine turning over and over and over trying to start. It eventually starts. No keys in the ignition nor does the vehicle have a remote start. I thought it might have and someone sat on the keys.

Then, about 3 or 4 in the morning it did it again. It started spinning and eventually started.

They shut it off by putting the keys in, turning the key on and then off. It has to be something with the ignition switch system, it can't be the new engine.

It's headed to Ford.

They have renamed it Christine.

A few things,,
ignition/ket circuit checks..
Rear axle under filled..
10speed tran replacements, bad converters
also trans pcm reprogram for drivability relearn etc..

not much on plug wire..

This also what you get when you don't have any competition. GM and FCA need to get their stuff together and build or provide some RV chassis manufacture an engine. I would love to see a chassis with a big old Hemi in it

FRED’s are coming back in the Newmar Canyon Star line. Freightliner chassis with Cummins up front.

Some things don't ever change!!!


I bought a new Class C in 1997, and within 6 months had an exhaust manifold fail. Took it to the dealership for repair, took over 4 MONTHS, because there was a manufacturing problem with the part and they had lots of warranty claims. After about 3 months I started making calls, Ford customer service did confirm the backlog for parts, there were none in inventory anywhere.

Once I got the motorhome fixed I sent in a request for an extension to my warranty due to the length of time it took to repair. I WAS DENIED!!!!

Guess what, about 4 months later, after I was out of warranty, the other side failed. Warranty denied. Ended up repairing myself with after market manifold, much beefier. Then the one replaced under warranty the first time failed again.

I also had transmission fail, a replacement seal for repair came with a warning "original seal not intended for heavy duty truck use". Duh!!!!

I also had engine oil pick up tube fail, it cracked at the flange where it bolted to the engine. This caused oil pressure to fluctuate at go to ZERO at idle when hot. Luckily I caught this without doing damage to engine.

After last item I sent a registered letter listing the problems I had to Henry Clay Ford Jr to try and get some relief for my problems. A customer service rep called me, insinuated that all the problems were due to a lack of maintenance. After I explained my credentials in regards to maintenance background he went dead silent. I told him that the problems I alone had with my Ford Chassis blew Ford's Six Sigma Quality Program right out the water.

I did not get any relief.

I am not a Ford fan, not now, not ever!!!

being in the autobiz, I can site tons of stuff.. even in my old towing fleet, personal stuff, customer stuff.

IT is not FORD only...
In RV Exhaust from the 460's go all the way into the V10,, heat stress, not accounted in design,,, happens on the pickups..

Seen exhaust manifolds in GM have a 2005 hauler in my shop now, 3500 PU..big v8 hauls 5th wheel, have fender off you can see RT side motor 3 bolts gone, customer wants both sides fixed.. $$$$$

My 2005 Duramax 5500,, POS, money pit,,

6.0 ford in tow truck, put half of what the truck was new at 78K.. to fix the FI and turbo and,,,,,,,$$$$$$$ still has issues reoccuring at 125K..

Nissan CVT,, boom... BUT I must say, my 2003 Murano AWD.. was 2 weeks from the 10 year unlimted that nissan was forced into.. 178K and it died.. Nissan dealed a bit since miles and time had my hands tied.. Nissan sent me a crated Trans, new TCM and a free / flash update if I agreed to tow it to a dealer and not drive to flash/test.. So I took a weekend with a young helper and swapped it.. Cost me still over $1K in stuff whike i was there,, BUT, it is about to turn 300K.... blah blah..

Point is dont beat up ford on this,, but in todays age of R&D and tech,, this stuff should not happen by any manufacturer..

At least in this case, it should be a relatively simple fix for Ford to tweek their spark plug wires and routing.

The Workhorse chassis had issues with wires, Ultra RV Products Magnum wires were an excellent solution. They are solid core wires. Think I would try their wires with a set of KoolSox.
