Battery voltage is good. Right before I get the CRL and wrench the engine will “buck” and go in a low pier mode. Turning it off and letting it set a few minute will reset the wrench light. At idle and driving slowly the engine runs ok. No roughness or unusual noise.
It seems the buck occurs in conjunction with letting up the throttle slightly.

Could it possibly be a bad spark plug wire? Many of the 2020 chassis had the defective wires.

Thank you Chad. That’s a good suggestion but I had already ameliorated that issue before this problem began.

Check compression. A number of these engines made it to market with cylinders not milled right.

Well, I took it to the local Ford dealer who was either not able or not willing to troubleshoot it. They made some lame claim as to not having the wiring diagram. Anyway, I drove it back it the 6 miles back home and it intermittently ran well and ran poorly, and again setting the CEL and wrench lights. I read the codes when I got home and it’s a plethora of issues. Here is a snapshot.
I had previously performed a visual check of the wiring but am inclined to look again for possible rodent damage.
In the meantime I have it scheduled for an appointment in two weeks at the nearest Ford Truck dealer and will have Ford tow it there under warranty.
So frustrating.

The error code P0600 that says it can't read the CAN bus suggests that all the other error codes are likely suspect. Apparently your OBD2 analyzer is having trouble communicating with the on board diagnostic computer. I'd suggest trying another OBD2 analyzer to at least isolate whether an analyzer can talk to the computer. Before I bought my OBD2 analyzer I drove to an O'Reilly Auto Parts store and they brought theirs out to the parking lot and used it to diagnose an issue - free.

Having it towed to a Ford Truck dealer this week to fix. I’ll post when I found out what is actually wrong.

Ford dealer stating that no wire diagrams are pure BS! All dealer has to do is input the vin# in oasis, then click on wire diagrams.
First off you need a good code reader that will cover the multiple mscan networks, not just the hscan network, first step is koeo( key on engine off), second step if no codes on koeo is koer (key on engine on).

Ok. So it has been over 3 months since the RV was tied to the Ford Truck dealer and to date they still haven’t figured out what is causing it to go into limp mode. They have replaced spark plug wires (which I had already done), the crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor twice, chase down the wiring harness, and who knows what else. They tell me that the case have been escalated within Ford Technical and that Ford is writing code to put more diagnostic features in their scan tool.
Mechanically the engine seems to run fine, until they drive it. I’ll keep you all posted whenever they figure out what is going on with it. Only 3,800 miles on it.

Call ford customer service, and provide vin#, tell them your issue that you cannot understand why it takes 3 months with no resolution, dealer is just throwing parts at it with no correct diag. Current ford IDS system does handle f53's very well, tell customer service that you would like FSE support ( field service engineer) that 3 months is unacceptable for a drive ability issue.

That's what ya get when FORD is the only game in town. You can't trade it in at another gasser dealer.

Sir, I am interested in how your "new" engine is doing. My 2021 7.3 gasser MH has been at Ford service since Feb 2. Misfires across the board. Gas and spark have been ruled out. Valve train being looked at.

Sounds like my previous engine. Took Ford 92 days to diagnose and replace that engine. Your symptoms sound like mine. In my case it was cylinders 3 & 7 that would not hold compression. The replacement engine is night and day different but I’ve not pulled any long hauls yet. MPG has improved considerably, too. If you haven’t already, you may want to contact Ford directly.
