Oil level
Does the V10 have an auto shut-off if oil level get's too low?

Kinda doubt there would be a low oil pressure or level switch on an automotive engine - a complete shut-down would be dangerous - and somewhat why there are idiot lights and gauges.
What makes you think there might be one?

No low level warning.
When the level gets low enough that the pump will starve, then you'll get a low oil pressure warning.

I'm embarrased!!! I bought a new oil pan plug. I thought it was in, but it was not. You can guess the rest of the story.

Oh Ed. What did you forget to do my friend from Tumwater.
I live in Onalaska, not too far from you.
I will double check the drain plug for you if needed, wink.
I really would.

If you ever see the idiot light come on, turn off the engine immediately!
If your V10 is like mine, the oil gauge is useless and wired to go to mid-range as soon at there's more than 6psi of oil pressure which is insufficient to maintain oil to all parts of the engine. The oil pressure sensor is either on or off - even though the gauge looks like it could vary up and down, it doesn't.

Best thing to do is check all your fluid levels before you depart. I made myself a pre-departure checklist that include the fluid levels, air suspension, tires and make sure all hookups are dis-connected.

Well that's very interesting. My F-150 now has over 250,000 miles on it and the oil pressure gauge reads slight past the middle marker. So I am thinking the oil pump and all things involved are working well, good pressure. Are you saying then, that it could have low oil pressure when it shows at the middle of the gauge?? And, dummy lights are too late for the most part. Why don't they put in real gauges. How about the battery gauge, is it DUMB also??

Unfortunately your engine will eventually auto shutoff when the oil level is too low. Getting it to restart may be very expensive. The bad news is I can see myself doing what you did. Good luck.

Yes, Ford uses dumb gauges because people would get freaked out by needle movement. I don’t believe GM does this as my Sierra will actually show fluctuations in pressure and voltage. Remember when Ford started putting “Normal on the gauges?

No not for the oil pressure. It will for a coolant over temp if you choose to ignore the derate into limp mode and continue to drive rather than pulling over.

All sparkplugs removed. Waiting for Kano Kroil penetrating oil to arrive. Will keep you all posted. Thanks

Penetrating oil won’t fix damage that is done.

As a retired diesel mechanic, there are two rules to follow 100% of the time:
1. Never put a drain plug in finger tight. Torque it or leave it out.
2. Always torque the plug. With a torque wrench. To the manufacturers spec.
More than one employer had a policy that if the plug falls out, you're done.
That said, don't get discouraged from doing it yourself.
