Parking brake light, brake reserve light

We have a 2016 Thor Challenger. Periodically the parking brake light comes on along with the brake reserve light. I can cut the engine off, restart it and the lights go off. It may not happen again for some time. Traveling today, and it happened again. Anyone experiencing this? Any help appreciated.

Same thing happened to me on the way home with our new unit. It's been covered in other posts, do a search. The long and short of it is a mistiming in the brake On/brake off switch by a few milliseconds. This can be cured by a re-flash of your ECM. The other post will reference the TSB to give to the dealer. It's TSB- #16-0042.

My hasn't acted up again knock on wood!

2016 Outlaw - very similar issues that we originally believed was caused by the previously mentioned TSB... Ford determined that problem was caused by Thor shooting screws through the chassis wiring harness during construction (in four places). Ford took care of everything under warranty. Good luck!

I have this same problem on my 2016, took it into the RV dealer to look at the problem and of course the light would never come on for them. Service man said they did a brake pedal adjustment and thinks that should take care of the problem. we shall see.

Thanks. I found a post on the Ford forum identifying a service bulletin for this problem. It is Tsb# 16-0042. In case you have more problems. They said it is a mis-timing in the brake on/brake off switch. Solved by a re-flash of the ECM (whatever that is). I'm getting mine done Friday.

so far so good

had the tsb done yesterday by ford . word of caution if you have a 5 star program . this tsb reflashes ECM not ABS module so make sure you go back to stock . it does change ecm ID .

Jimbo,

Any reason to get the reflash of the ecm? I went on a trip this past weekend and the lights went on once. Of course the lights reset when I stopped for lunch and turned the engine off. It's a bit of a chore here to find a dealer to work on one of these F53's. What's your opinion?

longshot : i waited until went in for service. i knew about tsb when mine first started doing it approx 1000 miles . sometimes it would reset when restarted other times not. i must admit i was a little worried driving down togwotee pass with the lamps on. we always told our customers red warning lamp STOP. yellow CAUTION. I did not have any brake issues so I dont think dire emergency . Any ford dealer has the computer and software to update but as soon as you say motorhome Can;t touch this !
