Quick connect fuel line connectors?
I am a member of the Workhorse forum, but have a question about Ford fuel and emissions quick connectors.
On top of the "in tank" fuel pump in an 06 F150 are two connectors with a dual tab arrangement. One is for the fuel line itself, the other is on an emsissions line, there is also one below the top side of the fuel pump asssembly. I imagine the F53 chassis setup is the same. We are unable to disconnect these connectors, and broke one trying. Does someone know the secret to these connectors?
I have done several google type searches, and only come back with the fact they are quick connect, but not how they actually disconnect.
The 3 that we see are different colors, apparently based on size.
Thanks.

Tool needed
To uncouple the Ford quick disconnects you need a special tool. They sell them several ways, as seperate tools, an all-in-one tool, and a scissors type multi-fit tool. They all work the same way.
You select the tool that fits the line's diameter, press the tool into the beveled end, and then you can seperate them.
Just push them back together to connect - no tool needed - hence quick connect.
If you need a visual just type Ford line disconnect in YouTube...

We have those, and they work on the connectors for the filters, these connectors are totally different. There is no beveled end on these for that type of tool to be inserted into. There is a tab within a tab that can be pulled out. But in doing so, we are not getting the lines to release. Have tried pulling the smaller tab out, and pushing the bigger one back in, that doesn't work either. When I did an internet search, I found connectors for older Ford pickups that were somewhat simular, with those, they showed to just pry out the tab with a screwdriver, and essentially break them out. We did that on one, and there is part of the retainer left in the fitting, keeping it connected. (Those pictures did not show the dual tab arrangement that we are contending with)
BTW, I did a youtube search as you suggested, and that is showing the connectors and tool like is on the fuel filters, totally different than what is on the fuel pump.

Subford, this is closer to what we have, but still not the same. In photo 1, where the arrow is pointing, is totally enclosed in the version we have. Also, the opposite side is slightly different also. (It appears that the retaining clip that fits under the rib on the line, goes all the way around on what we have.)
However, thanks for the reply, you put some effort into posting those drawings!

Sorry I was guessing that is what you had.
They were for a 2003 F53 fuel pump and I thought that 2006 might be the same.
This is my data for 2006:

Subford.
I took the tank to a local garage I use, they pulled both tabs out, then pushed the smaller, inner tab back, worked it a little bit, and the fittings came apart. The one on the outside of the tank was a little tougher because of having dirt in it. They thought a special tool also until they looked at it, then just used a small flat blade screw drive and a angled pick. BTW, no charge!
Thanks again all.
