Replacing our radiator in a 1999 F53 chassis.
How much coolant should I have on hand for this job?
The current (oem?) radiator is the type that has a plastic top and bottom crimped on. from inside the dog house I can clearly see that the seal is compromised and leaking at the top. Not a lot but definitely leaking and I want to address it before it gets worse. The replacement radiator is all aluminum top and bottom and, from what I can see, it's a perfect match.
I was quoted as much as $2500 and as "little" as $1800 from local radiator shops! We found out where they buy the radiators, paid $225, and one of their people is going to help me do the RandR. Any tips or suggestions (besides my first question) will be much appreciated.

I replaced my water pump and thermostat last month ago, According to my manual, the system uses 31 qts, so after flushing with water a couple times, I drained everything I could, filled with 4 gallons (16 qts) of pure antifreeze, then topped it off with water. This should give me a 50/50 mix.
Replacing Water pump and Thermostat on F53 – 1999 Southwind 35S
Fan and clutch come off the pump fairly easy. I tucked them up in the radiator cowl while I replaced the pump.. But you need to remove the cowl.
I read somewhere that the cowl can be cut in half to get it off. I thought I read where there are specific "cut here" marks or tabs on the cowl.
I think everything should come out the bottom, but I never did a radiator on an F53.
I have a lot of info on the 99 F53 on my site.

My mechanic removed Rad. from Bottom and was easy (1999 F53). Replace Radiator hoses if original. The best price for Ford hoses was on Amazon and I posted this info on here sometime ago so search here on irv2 for F53 rad. replacement. sorry I don't have Hose Part number. You should not have to cut cowl.

Check the fin count on your old radiator and don't settle for any less on the new one. I had the same issue as you with a leaking composite end tank. Purchased a new perfect fit radiator with brass end tanks. No more leaking end tanks. Then my F53 Bounder started running hot. Found out the OEM radiator had 20 fins per inch and the replacement has 15 fins per inch. That's a 25 percent reduction in the heat transfer path. I managed to graft the new brass end tanks on the old OEM brass/copper core and all is well.

Business where we bought the radiator
We are located in Reno, NV.
We bought the radiator from Performance Radiator on Longley Lane from Shane. I will update this post with the fin count.
We're going to look at getting labor quotes from a couple of shops to do the work after all, we'll keep the post updated.
Thanks to all for your input, I'll also try to post some pics...

I have replaced my radiator. You can read my thread here.
I bought my radiator at rockauto.com.
About the coolant. On our 1999 engine we must change it every 30000 miles or 3 years. But if you do a flush with a flush product sold at any car part store with the norm Ford ESR-M14P7-A then you will be allowed to put long life 250000km or 5 years into your radiator. You need 16 gallons of 50/50 coolant. To flush I purchased two flush kit and 18 gallons of distilled water. You can find on the internet how to do a good flush. My next coolant change will be in 2021.
I bought also all the hoses at rockauto.com. They ship for very cheap in usa and in Canada. Here is a 5% discount up to october 8 2017. Enter this (6718077159908476) in "Where did you hear from us" at checkout. Rockauto list your F53 1999.
