It's kinda like the statement that a product may cause cancer in California rats.

Our laws have made lawbreakers out of many a honest man and woman. I am not concerned at all about the legality or the warranty aspect of the Five Star tune. I've lost count of the laws I've broke in the last 58 years. Broke many today, but whose counting.

Very interested in this 5 star tune. What's involved to install this? Is it kinda like plug and play? Can I mess things up............

I know very little about 5 star tune and I looked at several tuners but finally settled on the UltraPower from Brazels due to past experience and reputation. My MH is a 2006 model V10 and I can tell you it was a great improvement. I hope to get a longer test on mine soon to check MPG change but it is an immediate improvement in the tranny and the engine no matter what the mileage is. I can't speak for anything other than mine. I looked for a company that can service my whole RV, and as I said, I know nothing about 5 Star but have been doing business with Brazels for some time now. It was not as cheap as others but I know Brazels service and if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Just my 2 cents

Alan

You will be sent the tuner loaded with the new tune. This plugs into the OBDII port under the dash. The tuner saves the original tune, while also installing the new tune into the engine computer. This allows you to put it back to stock anytime you want. You really can't mess anything up.

The tuner also comes with a USB cable to connect to your computer. If you ever want a different tune, Mike will email it to you as an attachment. You just save it to your drive. Then with the tuner, you load that file, then send it to the engine computer.

I installed the 5 Star Tune in my 2000 Coachmen Mirada 34MBS before a recent trip from Akron OH to Hilton Head Island SC. It was like I had a new coach! The downshifting in the mountains was much reduced. The coach would hold OD much longer. It would also downshift when going down hills. The coach merges into traffic much easier and just seems much more energetic than before. The coach just seemed "happier" on this trip that it did over Christmas when I took it down to Pensacola Beach FL.

Regarding gas mileage, it looks like I got maybe .5 mpg more after the tune, but to be honest, the reduction in downshifting alone justified the cost in my opinion. Best $400 to date!!

Installed the tune today. Only had opportunity for a 50 mile test drive, but the difference is very obvious and impressive. It holds OD much longer, and only went Screaming Second once on a section of road where two weeks ago it was screaming for miles at a time. Now I have a question: What Mike sent me is the "87 Octane Every Day Tow" tune. Is this what most F53 owners are using?

I have 91 Octane Performance (spending my inheritance).
87 Octane Tow and
87 Octane Performance.

I just wish the darn thing would unplug easier. I get a bloody forearm from the underside of the dash every time I unplug it.

Anybody else have this problem?

Gotta put some of that flex edging under there.

tick
tick
tick
tick....

Done! No more blood shed.

That is the same tune Mike sent me, haven't had much chance to try it out yet, just short tow, but will try it this weekend.

Dunner,
I had the same problem until I moved the socket.

Haven't tried removing it again, but the rubber edging has got to be better. It's almost like the connector needs a talking to with a dremel tool. None of my other OBD II connectors are that tight. I think it is the on board connector that is too large. Is it hard to get off and is there enough slack to maneuver it around.

I want to try it too. Too much down shifting for only a 5k enclosed going 62 MPH.

For my Ram 1/2T pick-em-up, I have a switch on the dash that lets me unlock the converter at will. Say for more acceleration on an on-ramp or to pass someone without going out of OD. Gives me 500-800 more RPM.
