Steering wheeling alinement

We have a 2018 bounder with a 22K F53 chassis and after getting the front end aligned and the CHF performed with the links changing holes, the steering wheel is rotated about 20 degrees when wheels are straight. The tech said he had to add a shim to get it within spec settings and there was no steering wheel adjustment that he could find. They suggested taking it to ford and having steering wheel pulled and reset.

Have any of you experienced this and what did you do.

The sector ( steering wheel ) shaft needs to be removed from the steering box. Once off, turn the steering wheel until straight and slip it back on.

Its a pretty simple task, shame the shop you used doesn't know this.

The steering wheel can not be pulled off and turned anymore. The spline has a tooth and droove missing so it can only go on one way.

There are all kinds of posts about how people have to "fix" Fords MH chassis so you aren't white knuckling it down the road. My new 22k F53 needed an alignment, CHF, rear track bar, steering stabilizer, tire pressure and balancing. Now i can drive it with one hand even when a truck passes. If only i can find a way to fix the pounding from the freeway expansion joints.

1) Set the front wheels straight. To do this, when driving down a straight road, I take a photo of the steering wheel so I know exactly where its at. I then set the steering wheel to the position shown in the photo so I know the wheels are straight.

2) From under the chassis, in front of the left front wheel, Loosen and remove the steering wheel shaft and u-joint from the top of the steering box.

3) Turn the ignition key to unlock the steering wheel, position the steering wheel so its straight. then re-lock it with the ignition key.

4) re-install the steering wheel shaft on top of the steering box. I use blue locktite on the bolt.

I had the same issue with our 2018 Vacationer 35K. Had a shop center the steering but if I had to have it done again I would follow this post (http://www.irv2.com/forums/f23/late-...ng-351074.html) and save a couple of hundred dollars.

I pulled the steering wheel off by loosing two screws and using a wheel puller.

I did. I loosened it to Phillip screws that hold the centerpiece. I went to AutoZone and purchased a wheel puller. I loosened the center nut. I backed the steering wheel off of the spindle. Realigned the Steering wheel.

If you could the steering wheel and recenter it your motorhome must be built on at least a pre 2013 chassis. At least since 2013 there has been a master spline on the steering wheel to steering shaft connection. The steering wheel fits on only one way.

Coaches approximately from 1999 to 2010 didn't use the master spline. On those models the steering wheel could be removed and repositioned. It's covered in the 1999 "Clear Vision" TSB
