sumo springs
I was looking at having sumo springs put on my 34 foot newmar coach. my last coach I had a additional rear sway bar installed. would sumo springa be equally effective as the sway bar on the rear or is one better than other or is it necessary to do both.

I have the Helwig sway bar and Sumo springs on my new Mercedes Sprinter RV, about 6 ft shorter than yours and narrower wheelbase. My research indicates they served different purposes. The sway bar was factory installed and I added the Sumo myself. The Sumo definitely improved the ride, much more firm when going over uneven surfaces.

If your problem is side-to-side rocking, an additional or larger sway bar should reduce that behavior without making the straight-ahead ride more harsh.
If your coach is on a Ford F-53 chassis, try the "Cheap Handling Fix" (CHF). It's free, and has the effect of making the existing sway bars stiffer. Links below.

Have you done the CHF or changed the shocks to Koni FSD's? Usually Sumo's are done after some less expensive chassis mods.
CHF
Koni's
Steering Stabilizer
(additional rear sway bar if your chassis didn't come from the factory with one)
Rear trac bar
Sumo's

In this order to prevent the side to side dip when leaving drive ways. 1. Sumo Springs front and rear. Drove better, but still felt the road. 2. KONI Shocks, now better ride. Coach was getting pushed by heavy winds and passing tractor trailers so I had Helwig Ant-sway bars installed front & rear. The coach handles much better. Well worth the investment! 🚍🤠

sumo
We put Roadmaster sways on both front and rear, safe-t steering assist and sumos.
We have not put Konigs yet.
Our ride is better, in and out of driveways is much better. Ride improved some, like half.... we still launch on the seams, but the landing is more cushshshshs....
No crash landings anymore...
Konigs are next.

We added Sumo Springs front and rear. So far this is the only suspension change and not sure I will make any others. The Sumo Springs did wonders. Greatly improved driving experience in all conditions.

Just put Sumo Springs and Safe T Plus on 33 ft MH F 53. Drove 3400 miles from PA to AZ. Huuuge difference. Sumos helped with the wallow and big bumps, bridge seams. Safe T helped with trucks passing and winds in TX and NM. Glad I made the change. 6 hrs now does not feel like wrestling a tiger.

I installed Sumo's on our front. They are akin to adding another leaf spring to your suspension except I don't believe they store energy like a leaf spring.
They are a type of cellular plastic or rubber. As they are compressed they become stiffer. The more they compress the more they resist more compression. To me that would add to the suspensions stiffness but would depend on how much they are compressed.
I'm not real sure they did much for the ride or handling. I guess I could remove them and see what happens.
I've also said this before. When any or all suspension MODS are added to any coach each will react in different ways. That different reaction is based on all the variables involved. Then add to that the perception of the owner.
There's only one chassis MOD that has had probably 98% positive results and that is performing the CHF. Yes replacing the SB's (Stabilizer Bars) as a cost of $300 each achieves the same results. The CHF is FREE!!!
Our RV has 25,000 miles with the CHF and all is well. There are many RV's with many more mile than that.

Just added the Sumo's
I just added 4 corner Sumos on my 22,000# F53, I can tell the coach will be much more stable going down the road. I look forward to my 1300 mile "test drive" in 2 weeks!

Probably a dumb question, but what is CHF?

I added dumps, anti sway, steering dampner, koni shocks, and for t and back blu ox sway bars to my 2014 class c forest river. It drives like a dream. Unfortunately or fortunately I bought a new class a and am selling the class c so starting over again but will do the same to this one.
