We just completed our first major trip with the new toys. (3,800 miles)

What are your experiences regarding the use of cruise control?

Here's what we discovered.

I really did feel uncomfortable with the engine reving up to nearly 5K when going up grades. So whenever I approach a grade I turn off cruise and use the gas pedal to maintenance a reasonable RPM.

I dropped and e-mail to Ford requesting tach red line info since the tach doesn't have a red line indicator. I didn't get a positive response since they sell the chassis to a coach manufacturer.

Anyone know where I can get tachometer red line information on '06 V10?

It really concerns me when using cruise and engine reving up to 5K. It sounds like the afterburner on a jet engine. Plus, I don't want to create any premature wear or damage to the engine.

In summary the trip was great and we just love the new toys.

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim, If your 06 has the 3 valve 362HP engine it develops it's max HP at 4750rpm and the rev limiter chip in the computer should activate around 5500 rpm. We have a 2000 with the 310hp v10 which develops it's max HP at 4250 rpm. On rare occasions I've seen my tach jump up to 5500rpm when it downshifts into 1st gear pulling very steep grades, but I instantly back off on the throttle and hold it at around 4000 rpm.
