Uh-Oh. Rear brake rotor is TOAST.
I think I know the answer. Do I have to remove the axle? Go ahead someone, say yes! I'm doing this job in my covered parking, and there isn't enuff room to pull the axle out. I'm gonna have to put it back together and pull it out. Not real happy right now.

No , you do not have to remove the axle housing, here is a video of a f-350 rear brake replacement.........I know/think you are riding on a Ford 53 chassis?
But this should give you a idea of what to expect.

Axle housing does not have to be removed but the axle shaft does.

Yes, F53 chassis. I watched this video a few days ago. He said you have to pull the axle. Looking at the assembly, it appears you have to pull trhe axle. I must be missing something here.

My mistake, I corrected my above post to reflect "Axle Housing", yes, the axle's them selves have to come out. Sorry about that

Yeah. I didn't mean the diff housing. Just the axle.

The Rears
The carnage was bad. Right rear caliper was almost seized. It would compress, but not release. It sounded like the rt front, but it was the right rear. Left was OK. So I have the parts, but really need some assistance with the axle nut and axle torque numbers. Still searching the net but haven't found what I need. Also need a 3 3/16" socket to deal with the nut. The work goes on. Here's some pics.

That is a 1 piece lock nut and It uses an 8 point socket.

That's one of the sockets that should come in akit you can get from a auto parts store. Normally you pay for the kit then return it in a few(?) days and get all your money back most places call them loaner kits.

John, I got one from my local NAPA this morning. Brand new in the box. When I got home and opened it up, none of the sockets were big enuff. Tomorrow I'll try Autozone when we're out shopping. I just don't want to buy a 40 dollar socket for one or two times of use.
