Windshield Wiper Issues 2000 F-53

Was heading down the frwy the other day with a heavy heavy headwind, wipers were on intermittent. About half way across the windshield they would stop, but if I turned them up faster then would work but still stopped midway. I figured they were just having a real tough time because of the wind hitting them.

Now they don't "park" in the normal middle position (between the split windshields) they now park out on the outer furthest points. Kind of weird, driving home (no rain) I tried them again on intermittent & they worked fine. But when you shut them off they again park out on the outside of the windows.

How would one go about changing the park position? or just live with it till they just quit working. Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you

The park position is a mechanical and electrical limit.
Basically, when wipers are turned off, a hold switch keeps motor going until a cam opens it, thereby parking it.

Some windshield wiper motors will have a retract position, but that is pretty rare now.

Given your other symptoms, I would make sure that the motor ground is clean and tight. If it is, then the hold switch has gone out, likely due to high current / frequent arc-ing.

Yes, the switch is replaceable.
Yes, the switch is available at most auto parts retailers via special order.
Yes, removing the windshield wiper motor is required to replace switch.
Yes, removal is a PITA and you may want to just replace it and be done with it. Remember that a lifetime warranty doesn't mean that it won't fail, just reduces future impact to your wallet.

You should check with other Winnebago owners which company Winnebago used for the wiper system. The system, motor and mechanism will not be Ford parts.

This was a common problem at our dealership. On the wiper motor is a serrated cone adapter. The nut on the motor shaft has worked loose. This allowed the wiper arms to shift position. Find the wiper motor. Loosen the nut on the motor shaft. Move the wipers into the park position. Tighten the nut.
