Wire color/location for back up lights

2019 Alante 26x on 2018 F53 chassis - want to hook up a manual switch on the dash to turn on back up/reverse lights. (without putting it into reverse!) Anybody wander into the electric birds nest under the dash or above the dog house and have an answer?

Locate a chassis wiring diagram for your year model F53 would be a start.

Attached find a diagram for a 2008 Ford F-53. Ford changes wiring designs slowly, so the diagram probably applies to your coach.

Per the diagram, fuse F33 in the CJB (Central Junction Box, a.k.a. "Passenger Compartment Fuse Panel") supplies the signal to the F-53 tail lights. I'd check the fuse listing in your Ford chassis owner's manual to confirm the fuse number. That's where I'd start if I wanted to interrupt the tail light signal. Pull the fuse before you do any work to confirm it's the correct one.

I recommend not splicing into any of the wiring, or cutting it, or altering it in any way. Best to leave it as the factory intended. Instead, pull the fuse and insert something like the Roadmaster FuseMaster in its place. Here is a link to the FuseMaster at etrailer. If you buy a solution, such as the FuseMaster (there are others):

a) be sure it is sized for your fuse (ATM, mini, micro), and
b) you put the correct fuse rating in it (for the diagram, that would be 10A)

You could make your own fuse-with-switch harness.

Don't forget to set the switch so the backup lights work as designed when the coach is on the road.
