The HWH leveling system is an add on" to the standard air bag system. Normally the air goes from the air tank to the "Ride Height Control" valve and to the air bags. There are two RHC vales at the rear axle and one RHC at the front.
When the HWH system is installed there is a "valve/manifold bank" (a.k.a. 6-pack manifold) installed at each RHCV location - so the air then goes from the air tank to the RHV and through the HWH manifold to the air bags. So in Travel mode (a HWH mode) the air passes straight through the 6-pack manifold and only the RHC valves are doing the leveling.
When you put the HWH into "Leveling mode" the Travel valves close and the HWH does all the leveling through its Raise and Lower valves. When the Travel valve is closed it is an isolated system so even if the air tanks leak to zero the air bags will still retain air pressure (unless they are leaking too).
When the HWH is "auto-level" mode, it will level the Coach then go to sleep and wake up every 30 minutes or so to check leveling. If adjustments are needed the HWH valves (Rise or Lower) will open/close as necessary.
If the Coach air system is low (or empty) on air, there is an electric air compressor that will come on to fill the air bag(s) as needed. But the air bags should hold air even if the main air tanks leak to zero, since the air bags are isolated from the rest of the air system. It sounds like you have some leakage at the air bags or related plumbing since your Coach is leaning after a while.
