Broken Tag Axle

Hey Ya'll! Thanks for adding me to the sight.

I have a 1999 Monaco Executive 42 DP. We were 650 miles from home when our tag axle broke. we chained it up and made it 1200 more miles hauling our Jeep on a steel car trailer. My question is what year bent tube axle will fit my coach? I really don't want to put another welded tag in it. I am a fabricator so I will support one with gussets if I have to but would much rather upgrade to a bent tube style. Thanks!!!

You'll get better response if you scroll down to the Monaco Owners forum.

If you drove 1200 miles with your tag axle off the ground, you likely overloaded your drive axle and tires. This could possibly lead to big problems lurking ahead.

If chaining it up means taking the weight off the tag completely, then you for sure overloaded the drive tires. If true, I would want them inspected for damage.

MorRyde makes RV tag axles, but don't know if they would have what you want. Some of their tags are rubber-shear suspension, not air.

Hope you best results. If you could post some pics in Monaco forum for others to be on the look out for. There has been more that a few broken welds on some Monaco on subframe supports but I haven't seen actual issue with tag axles.

I doubt if an RV chassis builder ever used a bent tube axle, they're not big into options that require that much engineering and fabrication.

Your motor home is 24 years old, if it makes it to 40 it will be one of the very rare ones. I'd pull the tag off, weld it, stiffen it up and figure it will outlast the motor home.
