Holiday Rambler Endeavor RR8R 35K miles advice

Hello-

I have a 2005 Holiday Rambler Endeavor with a Roadmaster RR8R chassis with 35,000 miles. We are looking to do a long trip next summer through several Western states and I would like your advice as to what would be the top 5 chassis maintenance items I should have my mechanic perform. His shop does lots of RV and other large diesel truck work and is competent. What advice would you give as to the top 5 things I should have him check/repair/replace (tires are good)?

Thanks,

Eric

On a 15-16 year old coach I would say belts and hoses should be a top priority.

Excuse my ignorance of your experience when I ask how you determined that your tires are good? If because the tread is good please make sure you check the date code. Most motorhome owners that I know replace tires based on age. 7 years old is about as long as I would keep them except maybe the tag tires.

Tires are 3 years old with 10K miles on them and I just had them inspected at the tire shop.

Hi Eric,

Rather than trusting the advice from this forum (other than mine, of course ) , it might be a good idea to just ask your mechanic to do a full chassis inspection and follow his advice.

I do have a couple of suggestions, though. First, IF he recommends replacing any belts, I'd follow that advice AND ask that he prove you with the removed belt(s) and carry them as a spare. If you were to break a belt in a remote location, you might be glad to have an emergency spare. Second, carry a spare set of fuel filters. I've seen folks experiencing clogged filters in some rural location and finding that their particular filters weren't available locally and had to delay their travels (several days, in one case) while waiting for filter delivery.

Take care,
Stu

When I bought my rig +12 years ago the first thing I did was take it to a Cummins shop for a complete service and inspection. Had them do an engine ECU scan to check for codes.

They did not do transmission filter fluid change so I did that myself.

This gave me a base line.

Suggest you drive it as much as you can on shorter trips prior to your long trip next year. We did a couple short trips and then did a +3 month 15K mile trek to Alaska.

Front wheel bearing repack if they are not oil bath. And a full fluid and filter replacement if you don't have records

I second the remark about carrying extra fuel filters. Those things seem to clog quickly without much warning.

Clean the radiator! Temps out west will tax the cooling system.
