Ed...You will see that all have been added together already if you look at post #121. I took the time to list the phone numbers just after the names and then the contact person and address.
I love that you took the initiative to even start the list -let alone type it all in!!
Question- I thought one of our iRV2 sponsors - Redlands Truck -was also authorized to do the work - Am I wrong???

cracked trailing arms
This forum is wonderful. We had the same problem in fort nelson, bc in august. Called scott and had the parts shipped to us. Had some trouble getting the parts but got it fixed as soon as parts arrived. Charlies truck repair in fort nelson. It cost, parts, labor, freight and etc 3700.00. I will agree i too think the coach handles better. We have filed a report with the nhtsa. We are still fighting with my service agreement people because they wanted to weld it, and after visiting with scott zimmer and ed salzar this was not an option. They want to pay only 1202.00 to have it welded. I to would advise every one to check if they have one of these models.

Don't Weld
Hi Phil,
Glad to see you got the correct resolution to the cracked trailing arms experienced on your trip. Replacement with the Source Engineering product is the only acceptable, safe and effective fix.
Under no circumstances should the cracked trailing arms be welded. The part is truly under engineered for its intended application. Welding will just make the part worse than than it is now, it will fail along the weld/parent material interface in relatively short time.
Don't compromise with the insurance carrier, have them call Scot or others for the full engineering discussion. It would really look bad for the insurance company to approve the weld, have the part fail again, have to then fix it correctly and then be sued for providing bad advise and an unacceptable repair. Wouldn't look good at all.
Once again good to see all is well.
Ed

Ed,
Good points, I would add that you may ask the insurance company to provide a written statement the the weld is an acceptable form of repair and poses no safety threat. If they believe it acceptable, they should be willing to put it in writing. I believe that may change their tune.
Jim

Dealing with the insurance aspects of this problem
Jim,
Likewise, a VERY GOOD point, make them put it in writing. LOL. Any and all thoughts on this subject will help Phil in his battle.
If the rest of the gang has additional ideas, thoughts, comments or suggestions for Phil, or others who may be dealing with the insurance weenies, pleas post them.
Regards,
Ed

Hi everyone:
Well after all this discussion on this issue, I have decided to get this corrected.
As of today I have the new SOURCE ENGINEERING Trailing Ams on my 07 Neptune.
I had the work done by PASO ROBLES TRUCK CENTER here in central CA.
They did fantastic work and it was done along with some other work and they got the whole thing done in just about 1 1/2 days.
The work I had done follows with the break down of the cost
Trailing Arms:
1800.00 for the arms
100.00 for Freight
100.00 for some misc drilling to install the arms properly.
806.00 for labor
Koni Shocks Installed:
159.00 for each shock (4)
190.00 for labor
I had my yearly basic maintence done in addition to the above work.
Now for my comments on the ride: I do believe that the change out of the arms and the addition of the Koni Shocks has improved the ride. It seems to have less porposising and it does take the heavy road conditions with additional smoothness. I am very satisfied with the improvement.
The important part is that I have seperated myself and my family and this coach from a very serious safety issue and now feel confortable about driving this coach. My trailing arms were not broken but I was not going to take any chances. I wanted to be proactive in getting this thing done.
I do hope all motorhomer's who are driving this RR4R chassis seriously consider having these arms changed.
Be safe to all
Bill

It is my understanding that Monaco's original recall replacments are now starting to fail also.
Check yours and if it needs replacment and it probably will, if Monaco LLC does not have the new replacment shown, you should probably consider ordering it from Source Engineeering. I paid $1,099.00/set plus freight and I had to pay for installation, takes about 8-10 hours @ $95.00/hr
My labor was performed by Glen's Tire Service in Melbourne, Florida
See one, do one, teach one! I also had them put on a Blue OX Tru-Center and the 4 Super Steer MCUs (Motion Control Units). Let's see how she rides!

July post price was 1099.00 plus freight. Now 1800.00 plus freight. I guess Source Source Eng. Sees a big cash cow here. It's great when you have no competition!!!!

In defense of Source Engineering, they were directly supplying the arms for down units all over the country. There were a couple of versions and revisions. The final revision was $1,395.00 plus freight from Source. When installers do the second unit, the labor costs should be less with the experience under their belt.
Many people were stranded for weeks waiting for freight delivery. This also meant that the people installing had little incentive to do one offs. Source decided to certify places to do the install properly and part of the certification was the requirement to stock the arms. The installing dealers now get a little cut on the parts as well as the install.
Source is making no more on the parts than they did, just allowing the installers a break. The people at Source break their butts to help people and have gone way above and beyond in many cases. They are a breath of fresh air in a cruel business world.

Hi
I have to agree with Jim on this one. The PASO ROBLES TRUCK CENTER was an authorized installer of these TRAILING ARMS and they had a set in stock. It was just a matter of me making an appointment to have the work completed. My schedule dictated last week and that was the only time I could get up to their shop. Paso Robles is about 150 miles north of my home here in Santa Ynez CA. The technicans did complete that part of the work in about 8 hours because they had already done two other sets prior to mine. Infact I saw the results of one of the broken units that was still on their lot. It was not pretty on what had happen to that MH when just one side had broken. Quite a bit of damage to the back side basement compartments doors and to the rear slide and paint.
Again the cost of this to me was worth it just for the safety aspect. I am just glad that there is a company (SOURCE ENGINEERING) out there that is addressing this issue. I am also glad that there are repair facilities and companies that are willing to complete this chassis work. KUDO's to PASO ROBLES TRUCK CENTER and to SOURCE ENGINEERING
Now everyone who might have this RR4R chassis has to make their own decision if this repair is worth the money and time, but for us it was a "given". I can not afford to move up to a more expensive coach at this time since I have only had this coach for a couple of years and I would be "upside down" in the financing area. DW and I also love the camping and we really like our NEPTUNE. We were not ready to give that up. So we wanted to make sure we had a coach that was at least safer to drive than what we got from the manufacturer.
To all motorhomers out there- PLEASE BE SAFE
Bill

Not sure if I understand correctly. Jim you said final revision is $1395 plus freight and Bill said he paid $1800 plus freight. Is $1395 a dealer cost and $1800 the price paid by the end user?

Watch the price drop then

trailing arms crack
i am a H/R neptune 2004 and expriencing this trailing arm adventure.
back in 2005 i was at the Monaco factory in oregon for this recall - the u joints were replaced and given the blessing that the arms were ok.
now its 2009 and with 24,000 miles and only because of the airbag on the right rear deflat did i realize there was a problem when the airbag was replaced and the coach would not raise only then the search began for why. only to find out that the trailing arm was indeed broken. i insisted that the other arm be replaced as well only when it was removed was the small crack found.
i am looking forward to having these new arms from source mfg installed.
thanks to a tech at monaco cust. service and friends of friends who had a safari with this problem was i directed to source.
the repair shop i am currantly working with have been very helpful and easy to work with.

i am amazed at what damage could have happened and gratefull i survived with only minor rig problems.
it would be really helpful to all rigs in this recall of the past be notified of the impending danger to have these arm inspected again.

Cummins Crosspoint, Normal IL
For those of you that live in IL. there is an authorized repair facility in Normal IL. called Cummins Crosspoint. Ours was the first install for them for Source Mfg. product. They are a full service repair facility for motorhomes. They did a great job on our coach.
Parts: $2000.00
Labor: $846.30
Misc parts: $3.70
Tx: $ 150
Total for repair: $3000.00
Glad to have it done. I didn't notice any difference in ride quality as noted by others on this site. It might be because our Cayman is only 34ft. long.
